Abstract: A system for background image subtraction includes a computing device coupled with a 3D video camera, a processor o£ the device programmed to receive a video feed from the camera containing images of one or more subject that include depth information. The processor, for an image: segments pixels and corresponding depth information into three different regions including foreground (FG), background (BG), and unclear (UC); categorizes UC pixels as FG or BG using a function that considers the color and background history (BGH) information associated with the UC pixels and the color and BGH information associated with pixels near the UC pixels; examines the pixels marked as FG and applies temporal and spatial filters to smooth boundaries of the FG regions; constructs a new image by overlaying the FG regions on top of a new background; displays a video feed of the new image in a display device; and continually maintains the BGH.

Abstract: A drive support display device supporting a drive of a self-vehicle based on a detection result by an object detector regarding a nearby area of the self-vehicle. The device receives object information from an external source, the object information identifying a nearby object existing in the nearby area of the self-vehicle, determines whether the nearby object is detected by the object detector, and provides a warning indicator when the determination section determines that the nearby object is an undetected nearby object that is not detected by the object detector. As a result, the undetected nearby object, which is already identified as existing somewhere nearby the self-vehicle but is invisible therefrom, may be emphasized in an image provided by the drive support display device.

Abstract: A method and a hybrid 3D-imaging device for surveying of a city scape for creation of a 3D city model. According to the invention, lidar data is acquired simultaneously with the acquisition of imaging data for stereoscopic imaging, i.e. acquisition of imaging and lidar data in one go during the same measuring process. The lidar data is combined with the imaging data for generating a 3D point cloud for extraction of a 3D city model, wherein the lidar data is used for compensating and addressing particular problem areas of generic stereoscopic image processing, in particular areas with unfavourable lighting conditions and areas where the accuracy and efficiency of stereoscopic point matching and point extraction is strongly reduced.

Abstract: An object estimation apparatus estimates a position and a speed of an object in images based on the images taken by an image taking means from different positions. The object estimation apparatus includes a shift information taking means that takes temporal shift information of a position of a corresponding pixel from frames arranged in time series in a reference image, which is a reference between the images, a parallax information taking means that takes parallax information of each corresponding pixel from the images with reference to the reference image, an estimated value taking means that estimates estimated values of the position and the speed of the object in three-dimensional space by using a filter based on the shift information taken by the shift information taking means and the parallax information taken by the parallax information taking means, a determination means that determines whether or not each of the shift information taken by the shift information taking means and the parallax information taken by the parallax information taking means is an abnormal value, and a correction means that corrects the estimated value taken by the estimated value taking means based on a determination result of the determination means. The correction means corrects the estimated value taken by the estimated value taking means by using different methods between a case where the determination means determines that the shift information taken by the shift information taking means is an abnormal value and a case where the determination means determines that the parallax information taken by the parallax information taking means is an abnormal value.

Abstract: Point cloud data sets representing overlapping physical areas are received. Surface feature points are extracted from the point cloud data sets and coordinates are determined for each point of the point cloud data sets. The point cloud data sets are aligned based on matching surface feature points between the point cloud data sets. Matched surface feature points are moved toward the coordinates of corresponding matched surface feature points and the remaining points are moved based on the moved matched surface feature points and the determined coordinates for each point.

Abstract: What is disclosed is a system and method for automatically segmenting a breast from surrounding tissue in a thermal image. A thermal image of at least one breast of the patient is received. The thermal image is then analyzed to identify a set of N points around the breast, a contour of an outline of the body, and isotherms of the axilla and infra-mammary fold. Thereafter, the points are connected together to form a N-sided irregular polygon which segments the breast from surrounding tissue. Each of the points is a vertex of the polygon and comprises a draggable object which enables a user to selectively manipulate a shape of the polygon. A user can add/delete vertices from the polygon as desired. The area of the image encompassed by the polygon is communicated to a breast cancer screening algorithm performing automated or semi-automated screening.

Abstract: A system and method that determines a seam between pairs of adjacent images for panoramic image stitching is disclosed. The method includes receiving a sequence of images, determining a pair of adjacent images in the sequence of images, matching one or more objects corresponding to a same object identifier in the pair of adjacent images, determining a seam in an overlap region between the pair of adjacent images and determining a portion of pixels from each image of the pair of adjacent images to represent in a stitched panoramic image based on the seam.
