摘要:
A keyboard operated electronic musical instrument is disclosed which has a number of tone generators that are assigned to actuated keyswitches. Logic is provided for generating a note range signal for each preselected group of contiguous keyswitches in which the note range signal is selected for an actuated keyswitch. Musical effects such as vibrato and tone changes are selectively actuated in response to the note range signal. A mixture tone generator is described which uses a single set of harmonic coefficients which are translated and shifted in response to the note range signal.

A keyboard operated electronic musical instrument is disclosed which has a number of tone generators that are assigned to actuated keyswitches. A tone generation computation means is implemented using a combination of an even symmetric function and an odd symmetric function. One of these functions is scaled in magnitude in response to a modulation control signal. The scaled and unscaled functions are combined to produce a musical waveshape which is frequency modulated by changes in the level of the modulation control signal.

A keyboard operated electronic musical instrument with polyphonic portamento and glissando effects in which each key controls one of a number of tone generators through a table of frequency numbers. The frequency transitions are achieved by subtracting the frequency number of a new note from the frequency number controlling the current frequency of an assigned tone generator. A predetermined fraction of the difference is stored in increment registers and added successively to the frequency numbers of the current notes until these numbers are equal to the frequency number of the new note. The addition rate, which determines the frequency transition time, is adjustable by means of a variable frequency time clock. The assignment of the tone generators to the actuated keyswitches is accomplished in a manner which prevents objectionable frequency cross-over transitions even when the number of notes in successive chords is changed.

A reverberation effect is produced in a musical tone generator of the type in which waveshape data points are sequentially and repetitively read out of a memory at a rate corresponding to the fundamental pitch of a musical tone. The reverberation effect is obtained by having a second memory storing waveshape points which are read out simultaneous with those from the first memory. The second data set is scaled by the ADSR envelope function and at selected echo time spacings is pointwise added to the data stored in the first memory. The data read out of the first memory is converted to an analog musical signal having a reverberation effect during the attack or release phase of the musical tone.

A keyboard operated electronic musical instrument in which a number of tone generators are assigned to actuated keyswitches. When a keyswitch is actuated, a tone generator is assigned with a musical waveshape selected from a library of waveshapes which are ordered in a predetermined arrangement. The assignment of waveshapes is made in a priority order according to the musical frequencies associated with the actuated keyswitches so that a chorus effect is obtained in which each note of a group of simultaneous notes has its own tone color. The assignment of waveshapes is made in an adaptive manner so that the melody line retains its own distinctive sound even when the number of notes played simultaneously on a keyboard changes. Vibrato effects can selectively be applied to any of the set of waveshapes.

A keyboard operated electronic musical instrument having a number of keyboards in which the loudness balance of the accompaniment keyboards are adaptively maintained at a preselected loudness ratio with respect to the solo keyboard. The loudness balance is automatically maintained as the tone switches are altered and as the number of actuated notes varies on the keyboards. The balance ratio is accomplished by adaptively scaling the harmonic coefficients used in a discrete Fourier transform to generate the tones for the accompaniment keyboards.

In a musical instrument having one or more tone generators in which a plurality of data words corresponding to the amplitudes of a corresponding number of evenly spaced points defining the waveform of one cycle of an audio signal are transferred sequentially from a note register to a digital-to-analog converter in repetitive cycles at a rate proportional to the pitch of the tone being generated, apparatus is provided for varying the spectral content of the tone in response to control signals. A loudness control signal causes loud tones to be produced with a greater number of harmonics than those for a soft tone. A formant control signal also causes the tones to have a time variant spectral quality.

In a musical keyboard instrument of a type having a number of tone generators substantially less than the number of keys, one of the tone generators being assigned to a key when activated, the pitch of the tone generator being set by the particular key, apparatus is provided for maintaining a constant audible loudness level to the listener from the tone generator regardless of the pitch of the tone generator. A plurality of sets of amplitude values are stored in a memory, each set including one value for each key. Each set of values corresponds to a particular loudness level. The envelope amplitude of the tone generator output is controlled to produce the same loudness level for all notes by addressing a set of values according to the selected loudness level and addressing a particular value according to which key is activated. An amplitude value is selected which is then used to control the envelope amplitude of the tone generator output signal. The amplitude value is used by the attack, decay, sustain and release amplitude generator such that the instantaneous envelope amplitude is always proportional to the selected amplitude value.

A polyphonic tone synthesizer in which two or more distinct voices are sounded by operation of a single key. While the voices have the same fundamental frequency, they are made audibly distinct by differing in harmonic content and differing in the shape of the envelope of the voice signal. The two or more voices are synthesized by alternately calculating master data lists of the amplitude values representative of points on the waveforms of the two voices, adding the two master data lists and converting the resulting values to an analog waveform by feeding the data to a digital-to-analog converter at a rate determined by the fundamental frequency of the note. The master data list for each voice is calculated repetitively during the time the key is operated by multiplying a set of coefficients with a set of sinusoid values and continuously scaling the resultant product by an envelope scale factor which changes with time to correspond to the desired envelope waveform. A single ADSR (attack/decay) generator may be time shared with each voice calculation to provide a differently changing envelope scale factor for each voice.

An electronic digital type organ having one or more keyboards generating two or more harmonically related tones in response to keying a melody monophonically on one of the keyboards. The harmonic tones may be of different tonal quality, so as to produce the effect of different instruments. The harmonic tones are generated automatically at a pitch determined by either the next lowest note to the accompaniment notes played on another keyboard or, if no other key is depressed, a pitch that is determined by the melody note and stored half-tone interval information.
