Concentrated boric anhydride solutions containing more than 5% of boric anhydride in an organic solvent selected from mono or polyalcohols, trialkylborate and/or dialkylacetal when the solvent also contains an acid selected from sulfuric acid and/or aromatic acids. These solutions are used as hardeners of formo-phenolic resols, more particularly for the manufacture of laminates comprising glass fibers and formo-phenolic resols.

Described herein are molding compositions comprising a blend of a polyarylate, a polyester, and at least one thermoplastic polymer selected from the group consisting of an aromatic polycarbonate, a styrene resin, an alkyl acrylate resin, a polyurethane, a vinyl chloride polymer, a poly(aryl ether), a copolyetherester block polymer or a polyhydroxyether. These blends have excellent compatability and can be molded into a variety of articles.

A synthetic resin binder comprising an aqueous mixture of phenolic resins and optionally other additives wherein the mixture of phenolic resins comprises (I) at least one phenol-resol and (II) at least one co-condensate of at least one monohydric phenol and at least one polyhydric phenol with formaldehyde and wherein in component (II) the molar ratio of the quantities of formaldehyde used to the sum of phenols is within the range of from 0.6:1 to 1.5:1, a method for the manufacture of an abrasive by means of said synthetic resin binder and the abrasives itself.

This invention relates to an improvement in a radiation-sensitive mixture containing (a) a compound which forms an acid under the influence of actinic radiation and (b) a compound which has at least one acid-cleavable bond and the solubility of which in a liquid developer is increased by the action of an acid, the improvement that the compound which is capable of being cleft by an acid contains at least one N-acyliminocarbonate group as the acid-cleavable group. The invention also relates to a process for producing relief images using the radiation-sensitive mixture.

Resins for use in making resin-coated granules are made by preparing a novolak resin from a phenol and formaldehyde in the presence of lactose and/or galactose, using an acid catalyst. Melt-coating the resin with an amine curing agent on to particulate refractory material gives resin-coated granules which can be moulded to make foundry moulds. The lactose and/or galactose can replace part of the phenol conventionally employed in preparing novolak resins and avoids the need for plasticizers.

Molding compositions containing a phenol-aldehyde resin, a filler material and processed mineral fiber as a processing aid are described. The compositions are suited to be extruded and comminuted to produce a nodular product essentially uniform in size and useful in injection, transfer, and compression molding processes.

A fluid adhesive composed of phenol formaldehyde resin and sufficient di(alkyl Carbitol) formal, where the alkyl radical contains from 1 to about 12 carbon atoms and yields a fluid composition, this fluid composition permits an elastomeric hose having an innertube of nylon to be adhered to a sulfur curable elastomer. This is reinforced by textile braid and covered with suitable Neoprene cover. This hose is suitable as a pressure hose in refrigeration or automotive uses.

A pressure-sensitive record sheet material comprising a supporting web material having adhesively bound on the surface thereof a coating composition comprising kaolin clay, a zinc-modified alkyphenol-formaldehyde resin and a metallic compound selected from the group consisting of calcium oxide, calcium hydroxide and magnesium oxide, said resin and metallic compound combining to produce an improved color response when contacted with a color-producing material.
