    Abstract: A tongue cleaning device includes a tool head defining a trough that delivers the vacuum flow from an inlet to the inner surface disposed above a working edge for efficient removal of debris. The trough has a defined rear wall giving it a defined width. This allows the vacuum flow to be directed to where it is needed to remove debris. One configuration of the device has a head that defines a liquid distribution channel with an outlet disposed in front of the working edge with a supply of liquid being removably in fluid communication with the liquid distribution channel. The liquid supply being a bulk supply or a hand held bottle with a supply tube extending down the handle of the device. Another configuration of the device includes vacuum control openings controlled by the user's finger.

    Abstract: An apparatus, including a magnetic field generator, a first magnetic field sensor configured for attachment to a proximal end of a surgical tool configured for insertion into a body, and a calibration device that includes a second magnetic field sensor and a proximity sensor, wherein the field sensors generate respective location signals responsive to a magnetic field emanating from the generator and traversing the field sensors. The apparatus includes a control unit, which receives the signals from all the sensors, extracts respective location and orientation coordinates of the field sensors based on the signals, computes a conversion relation between the coordinates of the first sensor and a distal end of the tool that is brought into contact with the calibration device, and subsequently applies the conversion relation, together with the coordinates of the first sensor, in providing a visual indication of a location of the distal end inside the body.

    Abstract: A nasal valve implant delivery system includes a delivery tool having a handle and a needle extending distally therefrom and configured to hold an implant therein. When loaded in the needle, the implant proximally abuts or is disposed adjacent to a pusher member disposed partially within the needle. A light source disposed within the delivery tool is coupled to an optical fiber carried within a lumen of the pusher member. The delivery tool includes a moveable needle shuttle disposed in the handle that is coupled to the needle. An actuator disposed in the handle is configured to releaseably engage with the moveable needle shuttle, wherein the needle shuttle is coupled to one or more springs configured to apply a proximal tensioning force on the needle shuttle, wherein actuation of the actuator retracts the needle proximally into the handle and releases the implant.

    Abstract: A tongue elevator device is a unitary body having a handle portion, an elongated neck portion and a manipulator end portion. The handle preferably has an oblong main body having a relatively thin flat portion and a relatively thick transversely-extending end portion for secure and comfortable gripping between the fingers and thumb of the user. The elongated neck portion extends distally from the flat portion of the handle portion, and is preferably provided with measuring indicia to visually illustrate distances from the manipulator end portion of the device. The manipulator end portion has a concave distal edge, which may be formed angularly or arcuately, and a central recess or slot is provided in the concave distal edge to receive the frenulum tissue.

    Abstract: The disclosed embodiments include apparatuses, devices, and methods for treating a breathing disorder. The method comprises creating an anchor hole at a location within or subjacent to a mandible bone, and positioning an elastic elongate member through the anchor hole, the elongate member having first and second ends at an entrance of the anchor hole and a loop in a region of a pharynx. The method further comprises connecting a retractor member at or near an end of the loop of the elastic elongate member in a region of the tongue, and connecting an anchor member at or near the ends of the elastic elongate member at the entrance of the anchor hole. In the method, at least one of the elastic elongate member, the retractor member, and the anchor member interact to distribute a force on the tongue and the force prevents obstruction of an airway.

    Abstract: An insertion instrument is provided including a tube having a proximal end adapted to be gripped by a user and a distal end adapted for insertion. A tip control actuator is located at the proximal end, and the distal end of the tube includes a flexible portion. This flexible portion includes a spine and a plurality of circumferentially extending ribs extending from the spine. The ribs are axially spaced apart from a distal tip toward the proximal end, with the ribs being spaced apart by wedge shaped partial circumferential openings. The ribs have first and second axial sides defined by the wedge-shaped openings, with the first axial side of one of the ribs facing the second axial side of an adjacent one of the ribs. For each of the ribs, at least one of the first or second axial sides includes at least one of an axially extending projection or a recess and a facing one of the at least one of the first or second axial sides of an adjacent one of the ribs includes at least one of a complementary mating recess or a corresponding axial projection. At least one tension wire extends from the tip control actuator to the distal tip.
