摘要: According to the method of treating water in a cooling water system, adhesion of fouling is on-line monitored by a compact and inexpensive apparatus and a slime control treatment is intensified according to the result of on-line monitoring. The water treatment is intensified in response to the change of electric potential of a sensor monitoring microbial fouling 11 made of sensitized metallic material. When the electric potential of the sensor exceeds a threshold value, an agent is added through both chemical feeding pumps 15 and 17. When the electric potential lowers to the normal value, the agent is added only through the pump 15.

摘要: The present invention provides a reporter bacterium, comprising a bacterium that occurs naturally in a biological sludge and that contains a nucleic acid that encodes a reporter protein not found in the naturally occurring bacterium. The nucleic acid can encode a bioluminescent reporter protein. A method and apparatus are also provided for detecting the presence of toxicity in a wastewater treatment influent stream, comprising contacting the influent with a reporter bacterium of the present invention; monitoring the expression of the reporter protein by the reporter bacterium; and correlating a reduction in the expression of the reporter protein with the presence of toxicity. In an additional embodiment, the present invention provides a method and apparatus for determining the effect of a known dose of an oxidative phosphorylation decoupling agent on biological wastewater sludge, comprising contacting a sample of the sludge containing a known dose of the decoupling agent and a control sample, with a reporter bacterium of the present invention; comparing the signal output by the reporter bacteria in the sludge sample containing the decoupling agent with the signal output by the reporter bacteria in the sludge sample not containing the decoupling agent; and correlating a decrease in signal output in the decoupled sample as compared to the signal output in the control sample with an action of the decoupling agent, whereby the effect of the known dose of the decoupling agent is determined.

摘要: A probe is conveniently positioned in a flowing aqueous medium. The probe is formed by two electrodes of notable difference in nobility connected by an electric resistance high enough to ensure that the voltage difference between its terminals is sufficiently great to permit accurate and simultaneous determinations of the growth of biofouling and the chlorine concentration by measuring the potential difference variations between the terminals.

摘要: A system and a method are provided for detecting and monitoring changes in frequency in a process stream. At least one probe is placed in the process stream that is capable of detecting a change in frequency due to a build-up of mass on the probe from scale, corrosion, biofilm or the like in the process stream. A processor receives the signal produced by the probe to produce an output signal indicative of the change in frequency which is proportional to mass detected by the probe. A feeder is capable of feeding a product into the process stream as a result of the detected change in frequency of the probe to combat the mass build-up from scale, corrosion, biofilm or the like in the process stream. The system and method are further capable of measuring anti-scalant, corrosion inhibitor, biocide efficacy and controlling product feed into the process stream based on the determined efficacy.
