At least a portion of a circumferential surface area of a portion of a rotorcraft rotating shaft is surrounded with multiple hollow members. Each hollow member includes an electro-rheological fluid having a viscosity that changes based on an electric field applied to the electro-rheological fluid. A vibration of the rotorcraft rotating shaft is controlled by changing the viscosity of the electro-rheological fluid in response to the electric field applied to the electro-rheological fluid.

    摘要: A composite cable and method provides for control of the cable, and particularly its vibration modes, in response to a wide range of resonant and non-resonant energy input. The cable comprises a non-Newtonian fluid (NNF) in a cavity of a flexible tube. The NNF is characterized by viscosity that varies with shear stress. A load applies shear stress to the NNF changing its viscosity to dampen motion of the cable. The cable may comprise inner and outer tubes that are separated by a NNF. The inner tube may be filled with the same or different NNF, a Newtonian fluid or void. A magnetic field magnetic field may be applied to further control the viscosity of the NNF. The magnetic field may be controlled in response to a sensed condition of the cable indicative of shear stress in the NNF to provide either positive or negative feedback.

    摘要: A vibration damper, e.g. for damping retraction or extension springing forces on motor vehicles, includes a pressure medium cylinder in which a piston with a piston rod is axially slidably arranged. The piston divides the cylinder into first and second chambers which contain an electrorheological or magnetorheological fluid as a pressure medium. The two chambers are connected with one another through a throttle gap with at least one field generating element arranged adjacent thereto. The length of the throttle gap is divided by a gap intersection point into a first throttle gap section connected with the first chamber, and a second throttle gap section connected with the second chamber. A non-return check valve is arranged in a bypass gap connected parallel to the first throttle gap section between the gap intersection point and the first chamber.

    摘要: A machine employing controllable mounts and a method for controlling such mounts based on machine operation are disclosed. The controllable mount may include a housing, a pin, rheological fluid within the housing and coils provided proximate to the rheological fluid. As current is applied to the coils, the apparent viscosity of the rheological fluid is increased, and in so doing so are the damping and stiffness properties of the controllable mount. With certain machine operations such as fine grading, plowing and loading, this may be helpful to the operator to more quickly or effectively perform the given task. With other operations such as roading or working on a flat surface, the feedback afforded by the mounts is not as important as operator comfort, in which case the current applied to the coils can be lowered and thus the mount can be made more relaxed. The machine of the present disclosure identifies the machine operation being performed through sensors, predictive algorithms, implement position, and operator input and sets the current and properties of the controllable mounts accordingly.

    摘要: The invention relates to a vibration damper, especially for damping retraction or extension springing forces on motor vehicles, which includes a pressure medium cylinder (2), in which a piston (3) with a piston rod (3) is axially slidably arranged. The piston divides the pressure medium cylinder (2) into a retraction chamber (5) and an extension chamber (6), in which an electrorheological or magnetorheological fluid is contained as a pressure medium. The retraction (5) and extension chambers (6) are connected with one another at least by a throttle gap (7), in the region of which at least one field force generating element (17) is arranged. At least one further non-return check valve (14) is arranged in a further gap (13) between the pressure medium chambers (5, 6). The invention is characterized in that the length of the throttle gap (7) is divided by a gap intersection or gating point (10) into a first throttle gap section (11) and a second throttle gap section (12). In that regard, the second throttle gap section (12) is connected with the extension chamber (6) and the first throttle gap section (11) is connected with the retraction chamber (5). Still another bypass gap (13) is provided parallel to the first gap section (11), and a non-return check valve (14) that is open toward the retraction chamber (5) is arranged in the bypass gap (13).
