Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A base station may initiate a beam management procedure, including reference signal transmission to a user equipment (UE) and receive beam training. A base station may configure a UE to monitor a set of beams for reference signals. Based on the received reference signals, the UE may optionally select one or more transmit beams for wakeup signal reception, and may transmit an indication of the selected beams to the base station. The base station may transmit a wakeup signal over the originally configured or the UE-selected transmit beams to initiate wake-up procedure at the UE. The base station and UE may subsequently perform a refined beam management procedure, providing a refined reference signal transmission from the base station. Based on the received transmission, the UE may select a refined beam for downlink transmissions.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications provide for transmission of a beam switch command to a user equipment (UE) via control channel signaling. The UE may establish a connection with a base station using a first transmission beam, receive configuration information configuring the UE to select between a first decoding hypothesis corresponding to downlink control information (DCI) including a bit field including a beam switch command and a second decoding hypothesis corresponding to the DCI not including the bit field, receive a downlink control channel transmission via the first transmission beam, decode the downlink control channel transmission in accordance with the configuration information to obtain decoded DCI, and communicate with the base station based at least in part on the decoded DCI.

The described techniques provide for configuration and transmission of reference signals over aggregated mini-slots by modifying (e.g., extending) transmission time intervals (TTIs) or sharing reference signals across multiple mini-slots. The reference signals may be shared between multiple aggregated mini-slots and a reference signal pattern may be determined based on data payload allocation, modulation coding scheme (MCS), rank, or other factors of the aggregated mini-slots. Data payloads may be scheduled jointly or separately for each mini-slot and may be allocated across a set of aggregated mini-slots.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A base station may transmit a UE-specific beam management parameter to a user equipment (UE) in a connected mode discontinuous reception (C-DRX) OFF state. The UE-specific beam management parameter may indicate a time interval for reception of downlink reference signals (RSs) prior to the beginning of a next C-DRX ON state. The UE may monitor for downlink RSs, and transmit an uplink measurement report during the C-DRX OFF state, which may indicate a reconfigured active beam pair for use during the next C-DRX ON duration. In some cases, the UE may transmit uplink RSs to the base station, and the base station may reconfigure an active beam pair based on the uplink RSs. The UE may monitor for control information (e.g., in a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH)) during the next C-DRX ON duration, using the reconfigured active beam pair.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. Uplink resources may be allocated for transmissions of beam recovery messages. For example, a user equipment (UE) communicating in a system that supports beamformed transmissions may receive a configuration for resources from a base station, where the resources may be used for beam recovery signaling. The UE may identify a beam failure on one or more active beams used to communicate with the base station, and the UE may transmit a beam recovery message to the base station. In such cases, the beam recovery message may be transmitted according to the configuration received from the base station such that the beam recovery message is transmitted using the beam recovery resources. In some cases, the configuration may be received at the UE via radio resource control (RRC) signaling or via a system information broadcast from the base station.

Abstract: A grant may allocate resources for an uplink transmission by a user equipment (UE) in a system using beamforming, where the resources may be used by the UE to transmit data or control information during a time that a base station is listening in a certain receive beam direction. A UE may be in communication with a base station using beamformed transmissions, and the base station may send a resource grant to the UE for uplink transmissions that correspond to a receive beam direction of a beamsweeping operation. The UE may then transmit data and/or uplink control information to the base station according to the resource grant and when the base station is listening in the corresponding direction. In some examples, the UE may send the uplink transmission to the serving base station, and transmit a random access channel to another base station based on the beamsweeping operation.

The network entity may transmit the common control information on a frequency within the second frequency range of the system bandwidth.
