Abstract:
A wound treatment apparatus for treatment of surface wounds with a bandage system configured to control the environment adjacent the wound. The apparatus includes a bandage configured to cover a wound and provide a seal about the perimeter of the wound and cavity over the wound. A fluid supply conduit and a fluid drainage conduit are each in communication with the cavity. A nebulizer is coupled to the supply conduit to supply medicinal fluid to the wound. A waste receptacle is coupled to the drainage conduit to remove the fluid away from the wound.
Abstract:
A chemically inducible, heat-shock inducible and general-purpose plant gene promoter sequence, and expression cassettes, plant cells and plants containing the sequence.
Abstract:
Nucleotide sequences mediating male fertility in plants are described, with DNA molecule and amino acid sequences set forth. Use of the nucleotide sequences to mediate fertility in plants is also described. In one such method, an inducible promoter is used to regulate expression of the DNA molecule. The control sequences are modified so that it is normally "off" and as a result the plants are male sterile. When it is desired to reproduce the male sterile plants, male fertility is restored by treating the plants with a non-phytotoxic chemical which induces expression of the critical gene.
Abstract:
A method of separating sulfuric acid from spent chlorine dioxide generator liquor. The method comprises simultaneously adding to the spent liquor, a water-soluble organic compound selected from the group consisting of alcohols and ketones, and water. The resulting solid is separated to leave an aqueous solution of sulfuric acid. The method is of particular application in acid and salt cake recovery from the effluent of a chlorine dioxide generator operating at an acid normality of between 6 and 11.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus of reinforcing a cable includes wrapping a flexible wire around at least a portion of an external surface of the cable, and soldering the flexible wire to the cable, thereby positioning the flexible wire with respect to the cable. The portion of the external surface of the cable wrapped with the flexible wire may be disposed between the cable and a connector, or represent an entire length of the cable. Wrapping the flexible wire may involve wrapping the flexible wire around a portion of the external surface of the cable such that coils of the flexible wire are disposed apart from each other, and sliding the coils together such that the coils of the flexible wire are touching each other.
Abstract:
An enhanced globulin-1 regulatory region is shown, a nucleotide sequence of which includes at least one additional copy of a region of the globulin-1 regulatory region which includes at least one transcriptional factor binding domain, combined with a transcription initiation site and translation start site. The promoter provides improved seed preferred, and particularly embryo preferred expression in plants. Methods of use are also shown in preferentially expressing a heterologous protein to the embryo tissue of a plant.
Abstract:
A multi-polarized scanning phased array antenna is provided, which includes a first element, second element, first feed line, second feed line, first 180 degree phase shifter, second 180 degree phase shifter, third 180 degree phase shifter, fourth 180 degree phase shifter, θ1 degree phase shifter, and θ2 degree phase shifter. The first element is fed with a first polarization signal at a first feed point and a third feed point, and a second polarization signal at a second feed point and a fourth feed point. The second element is fed with the first polarization signal at a fifth feed point and a seventh feed point, and the second polarization signal at a sixth feed point and an eighth feed point. The first feed line is coupled to the elements and associated with the first polarization. The second feed line is coupled to the plurality of elements and associated with the second polarization. The first 180 degree phase shifter is coupled in the first feed line between the first and third feed points, and the second 180 degree phase shifter is coupled in the second feed line between the second and fourth feed points. The third 180 degree phase shifter is coupled in the first feed line between the fifth and seventh feed points, and the fourth 180 degree phase shifter is coupled in the second feed line between the sixth and eighth feed points. The θ1 degree phase shifter is coupled in the first feed line between the third and seventh feed points, and the θ2 degree phase shifter is coupled in the second feed line between the second and sixth feed points.
