Abstract: A prediction technique, which use pre-prediction filtering techniques to reduce noise influence on the predicted samples of a block to be reconstructed, is presented. The prediction techniques suggested herein can be for example used in an encoding apparatus or a decoding apparatus. The reference samples that are used to reconstruct a given block of pixels of an image are categorized or segmented into subsets. The subsets may be processed differently, e.g. the subsets may be subjected to distinct filters. Examples of such filters include smoothing filters and/or deblocking filters, which are applied to the respective subsets of the reference samples.

Embodiments of the invention are also related to the implementation of these encoding and decoding methods in an apparatus and on a non-transitory computer readable medium. According to the embodiments of the invention, data are hidden in values of different layers of a hierarchically structured coding unit.

Abstract: Devices and methods for intra prediction of DC intra prediction mode are provided. The method includes: obtaining a value of an intra prediction reference line index of a transform block; obtaining prediction samples of the transform block based on reference samples from a reference line. The reference line is indexed by the value of the intra prediction reference line index. The method introduces a harmonization of MRL and non-directional intra prediction (i.e. DC). The harmonization consists of aligning the reference samples from a reference line, which is indexed by the value of the intra prediction reference line index.

Abstract: A method for a Sample Adaptive Offset (SAO) in-loop filtering process for a reconstructed picture, the method comprising: obtaining a reconstructed picture sample array; obtaining a value of the size of a current coding tree unit (CTU); obtaining at least one SAO parameter; comparing the value of the size of the current CTU with a predefined threshold, and upon determining that a value of the size of the current CTU is smaller than the predetermined threshold, setting a value of the size of a sample-adaptive offset (SAO) region to be equal to the predefined threshold; and performing a SAO process on the samples comprised in a the SAO region based on the at least one SAO parameter, wherein the SAO region is defined according to the value of the size of the SAO region.

Abstract: Devices and methods of directional intra prediction for chroma component of a picture are provided. The method includes obtaining an initial intra prediction mode of the chroma component, and deriving a chroma intra prediction mode (intraPredModeC) from a look up table (LUT) by using the initial intra prediction mode of the chroma component. The chroma component has different subsampling ratios in horizontal and vertical directions. The method further includes performing wide-angle mapping on the chroma intra prediction mode (intraPredModeC) to obtain a modified intraPredModeC; obtaining an angle parameter for the chroma component based on the modified intraPredModeC; and obtaining predicted samples of the chroma component based on the angle parameter. The method provides the minimum number of entries in the LUT that is used to determine chroma intra prediction mode from the initial chroma intra prediction mode.

Abstract: Devices and methods of intra prediction of a block of a picture are provided. The method includes obtaining reference samples of a block, and determining a value of a predicted sample based on the reference samples and an intra prediction mode. The method further includes obtaining a value of a multiplier based on at least one dimension of the block, and normalizing the value of the predicted sample based on the value of the multiplier and a value of a shift. The intra prediction mode is INTRA_DC, or INTRA_BI, or horizontal intra prediction mode. By normalizing the value of the predicted sample based on the value of the multiplier and a value of a shift without division operation, the method could increase intra prediction efficiency.
