Abstract: An electronic device such as a head-mounted device may have displays. The display may have regions of lower (L) and higher (M, H) resolution to reduce data bandwidth and power consumption for the display while preserving satisfactory image quality. Data lines may be shared by lower and higher resolution portions of a display or different portions of a display with different resolutions may be supplied with different numbers of data lines. Data line length may be varied in transition regions between lower resolution and higher resolution portions of a display to reduce visible discontinuities between the lower and higher resolution portions. The lower and higher resolution portions of the display may be dynamically adjusted using dynamically adjustable gate driver circuitry and dynamically adjustable data line driver circuitry.

Abstract: A display may have curved edges such as rounded corners. Pixels in the display may be controlled so that the active area of the display has the desired curved edge shape. In order to maximize the apparent smoothness of the curved edge, the display may include circuitry that dims some of the pixels based on their location relative to a spline for the curved edge. The display circuitry may include a multiplication circuit that receives image data as a first input and dimming factors from a gain table as a second input. The image data may include a brightness level for each pixel in the array of pixels. The multiplication circuit may multiply the brightness level for each pixel by its respective dimming factor. This modified image data may then be supplied to the imaging pixels using display driver circuitry.

Abstract: This application relates to systems, methods, and apparatus for compensating voltage for pixels of a display panel based on the location of the pixels within the display panel. An amount of voltage compensation is assigned to each pixel or a group of pixels within the display panel in accordance with a calibration of the display panel. During operation of the display panel, pixel data is generated for a location of the display panel, and the pixel data is modified according to the amount of voltage compensation corresponding to the location. By modifying the pixel data in this way, spatial variations in voltage across the display panel can be mitigated in order to reduce the occurrence of certain display artifacts at the display panel.

For example, a method may include obtaining, via a processor, a difference between a nominal voltage of a common electrode of a display and a measured voltage of the common electrode. Abstract: An electronic device may generate content that is to be displayed on a display. The display may have an array of liquid crystal display pixels for displaying image frames of the content. A charge accumulation tracker may analyze the image frames to determine when there is a risk of excess charge accumulation. The charge accumulation tracker may implement a physically derived circuit model of the pixels. A charge accumulation input response matrix and a charge accumulation state response matrix for the model may be stored in look-up table circuitry and used in computing a current charge accumulation state based on current pixel voltage information and previous state information. The impact of temperature, backlight illumination level, frame duration, and other factors may be taken into account in evaluating the current charge accumulation state.

Abstract: This application relates to systems, methods, and apparatus for optimizing the operations of a power converter of a display panel based on image data to be output by the display panel. The power converter can include one or more switches that can be activated or deactivated based on the image data in order to shift a power efficiency of the power converter. Power efficiency is shifted as a result of balancing an amount of charge necessary for a load with an amount of resistance created when activating switches of the power converter. Therefore, by dynamically altering a configuration of a power converter based on image data, power efficiency of the power converter can be improved.

Abstract: Devices and methods related to liquid crystal displays (LCDs) are provided. For example, such an electronic device may include an LCD with a slew rate control unit that adjusts a slew rate for source drivers of the LCD. The slew rate may be adjusted differently for each source driver and for each frame of data signal delivered by the source driver. Individually adjusting the slew rate of the source driver enables the LCD to respond to or reduce noise within the LCD that may otherwise contribute to flickering or other unwanted display events.
