摘要: A short cylindrical and thin sleeve bearing including a radial bearing portion of a dynamic pressure type on which grooves are formed is worked with high accuracy. Grooves are formed on an inner peripheral surface of a blank by a groove forming tool. Raised deformations generated on the inner peripheral surface as a result of this groove forming are removed by ball sizing of passing a steel ball on the inner peripheral surface. Further, by a roller burnishing tool, the cylindrical bore of the bearing is finished to have a predetermined diameter, and simultaneously, specular finish of the inner peripheral surface is effected.

摘要: Thin-wall spline forming apparatus (20) disclosed includes toothed forming racks (24) having associated tooth pitch lines (48) and a toothed mandrel (22) having a tooth pitch circle (50) that is tangent to the forming rack pitch lines and of a diameter equal to the mean diameter of thin-wall splines (44) formed by meshing the rack and mandrel teeth with a thin-wall sleeve (38) of a power transmission member mounted on the mandrel between the meshing teeth. A mandrel drive gear (60) drives the mandrel in coordination with the forming racks (24) and is driven by a pair of drive racks (62) mounted for movement with the forming racks. Best results are achieved when the mandrel (22) has the same number of teeth (40) as the number of teeth (64) of the drive gear (60) and with the mandrel and drive gear teeth aligned with each other.

摘要: A hydraulic control circuit (10) for operating a loader (12) of a machine for splining an annular thin-wall sleeve of a power transmission member is disclosed as including valving (116) for communicating supply and return conduits (102,116) with load and unload cylinders (14,16) to provide loading and unloading movements. Load and unload valves (118,120) of the valving have load cycle positions where the load cylinder drives both the loading and unloading members (26,28) which clamp a thin-wall member during such movement to provide loading thereof for splining. In an unload cycle position of the valves, both the load and unload cylinders are hydraulically driven in an unloading direction opposite to the loading movement. The loading and unloading members (26,28) are moved away from each other by their associated cylinders in an index cycle of the valves to permit indexing of a load table (30) under the operation of an index valve (162) of the circuit.

摘要: A method and an apparatus are disclosed for forming expanded mesh sheet from deformable strip by the steps of concurrently slitting and preforming the strip to provide transverse bands of slit and elongated wire segments projecting alternately from opposite sides of the plane of the strip separated by transverse bands of unslit strip, slitting the strip at alternate bands to extend slit segments in a staggered relation and laterally expanding the slit and preformed strip. Concurrent slitting and preforming and subsequent slitting can be effected by a cluster of three rolls or by a linear arrangement of pairs of opposed rolls.The invention has particular utility in forming expanded mesh sheet of exact final dimensions for use as battery grids from lead or lead alloy strip.

摘要: A toothed tool for the roll-working of toothed workpieces. There is provided a toothed tool having spaced serrations along the length of a tooth, said serrations extending from the dedendum to the addendum of the tool teeth whereby said serrations define a plurality of spaced ribs on the tool teeth. Said serrations are arranged in such a manner that the ribs are off-set on one tooth with respect to the corresponding ribs on an adjacent tooth. 摘要: A tube and method for sizing the effective inside diameter of the tube to a smaller effective inside diameter is provided. The method uses rollers that apply focused pressure to the tube to create a crease that reduces the effective inside diameter without substantially changing the outside envelope of the tube. The crease may be either a radius or squared. Reducing the effective inside diameter of the tube creates radiused surfaces for a self-tapping screw to cut threads.
