    摘要: An optical transmitter includes an optical bench in one embodiment. A window frame is mounted to a mounting block having a groove to form the optical bench. Optic and electro-optic components of the optical transmitter are mounted to the optical bench. The window frame includes a plurality of openings for mounting one or more ball lenses, an optical isolator, and a semiconductor laser. The semiconductor laser chip is used to generate light signals for optical communication over an optical fiber. The one or more ball lenses may be mounted into ball lens openings of the window frame and extend into the groove of the mounting block. One of the ball lenses maybe used to focus light signals between an optical fiber and the optical transmitter. Another one of the ball lenses may be used to collimate the light output from the semiconductor laser. In another embodiment, an optical receiver includes the optical bench. In yet another embodiment, an optical transceiver includes the optical bench.

    摘要: An optical device 1 has a substrate 2, whereas bare fibers 5 exposed from a coated optical fiber tape 3 by removing a coating 4 from its middle part are secured to the upper face part of the substrate 2. In the substrate 2, a transverse groove 8 is formed obliquely with respect to an axis of the bare fibers 5 so as to traverse core parts 5a of the bare fibers. An optical member 9 for reflecting a part of signal light transmitted through the bare fibers 5 is inserted in the transverse groove 8. A support member 10 is provided on the upper side of the bare fibers 5, whereas a support surface 10a of the support member 10 is provided with photodetectors 11 for detecting light reflected by the optical member 9. The support surface 10a of the support member 10 is inclined with respect to the upper face of the substrate 2, whereby the light entrance surface 13 of each photodetector 11 is inclined by a predetermined angle with respect to the upper face of the substrate 2. Such a configuration realizes an optical device which can lower the polarization dependence of received light in the photodetectors.

    摘要: Provided is a fiber grating laser for optical communication which can be used as a light source regardless of the occurrence of mode hopping. The laser module comprises a semiconductor optical amplifier device, an optical waveguide such as an optical fiber, and a diffraction grating such as a fiber grating. The semiconductor optical amplifier device has first and second end surfaces. The optical waveguide is optically coupled to the semiconductor optical amplifier device. The diffraction grating is optically coupled to the optical waveguide. The semiconductor optical amplifier device and the diffraction grating constitute an external cavity. An optical cavity length of the external cavity is in a range of 13 millimeters or more but 27 millimeters or less.

    摘要: A package to encapsulate an optical component includes a RF interface to receive high frequency signals from an external source. The RF interface pins that can be configured as one or more single-ended transmission lines or as one or more differential transmission lines. For example, the RF interface includes four pins that can be coupled in one of two configurations to provide a single-ended transmission line and in a third configuration to provide a differential transmission line. In one embodiment, the first, second, and fourth pins are coupled to ground while the second pin is coupled to receive a RF signal. Alternatively, the first, second and fourth pins are coupled to ground and the third pin is coupled to receive a RF signal. For a differential transmission line, the first and fourth pins are coupled to ground while the second and third pins are coupled to receive a differential RF signal.

    摘要: A multichannel parallel LD/PD module comprising a bench, a plurality of lightpaths having an initial narrow width region, an intermediate width enlarging region and a final wide width region, a plurality of photodiodes or a photodiode array mounted on the narrow width region, a wavelength selective filter formed on the narrow width region for selectively reflecting receiving beams, a plurality of light emitting devices fitted behind rear ends of the lightpaths on the bench. Traveling in element fibers in an outer ribbon fiber, receiving signal beams go into the lightpaths via front ends and are reflected by the wavelength selective filter slantingly upward at the narrow width region. The reflected beams go into the photodiodes and are converted into photocurrents in proportion to the receiving signals. Emanating from the light emitting devices, transmitting signal beams enter the lightpaths via final ends of the wide width region, propagate backward in the width enlarging region, arrive at the narrow width region, transfer to outer element fibers in a connector, and propagate in the ribbon fiber following the connector. Long distances between the transmitting portion (LDs or LEDs) and the receiving portion (PDs) suppress optical, electromagnetic and electric crosstalk between the light emitting devices and the photodiodes.

Some of the disclosed modules employ a tape automated bonding substrate (TAB) which is surface mounted with circuit elements. In some example modules, only one active alignment is employed to manufacture the module. Some of the disclosed modules include an optically pluggable connector.

    摘要: A package contains therein a semiconductor laser element for emitting light and a semiconductor circuit element for driving the semiconductor laser element and is provided with an optical fiber supporting face and a back face. The optical fiber supporting face is provided for supporting an optical fiber for transmitting the light from the semiconductor laser element, and the back face is opposed to the optical fiber supporting face. The back face has a lead pin for feeding a positive-phase signal into the semiconductor circuit element and a lead pin for feeding a negative-phase signal into the semiconductor circuit element. The lead pins penetrate through the back face. The semiconductor circuit element receives positive-phase and complementary negative-phase signals, both including a high-frequency component of 10 GHz or higher, through the lead pins, converts these signals into a single-ended signal, and outputs the resulting signal to the semiconductor laser element.
