    Abstract: An improvement is proposed relating to an optical isolator for bonding of the polarizer and analyzer of polarizing glass to the respective holder rings for position adjustment. The improvement comprises: (a) forming a metallized layer of a specific composition over at least two of the side surfaces of each of the polarizer and analyzer on the area of the surface excepting for the linear areas of 50 to 150 .mu.m width from the top and bottom surfaces of the polarizer or analyzer; and (b) bonding the polarizer and analyzer to the respective holder rings by soldering using a solder alloy with intervention of the metallized layer between the polarizer or analyzer and the holder ring. The invention further provides an optical part having, on at least one of the surfaces, a heat-resistant anti-reflection coating film which is a double-layered film consisting of a thin film of the titanium oxide TiO.sub.x (x=1.9 to 2.2) as the underlayer of high refractive index and a thin film of silicon dioxide as the overlayer of low refractive index.

    Abstract: An image coding apparatus includes an image dividing circuit for dividing an image signal of one frame into a plurality of blocks, an amount-of-data calculator for computing the amount of data representing fineness of a picture included each block, a bit-assignment determining circuit for distributing all coding bits usable for encoding the image signal of one frame to the individual blocks, to each block a number of bits which has been determined by the amount of data of the block, a quantizer for quantizing the image signal for each block and outputting a quantization signal, and an encoder for encoding the quantization signal in accordance with the number of bits of each block determined by the bit-assignment determining circuit.

    Abstract: A pressure damper includes a main body portion having a recessed portion with an opening and a communication hole that opens to an inner surface of the recessed portion and communicates to an external region. A flexible thin film closes the opening of the main body portion for reducing pressure fluctuations of fluid in the recessed portion.     Abstract: A liquid jet head has a nozzle plate with nozzle holes for ejecting a liquid. A wall portion surrounding the nozzle plate has an opening opposed to the nozzle holes. An opening and closing mechanism is configured in an open state to open the opening of the wall portion to expose the nozzle holes to an exterior of the head, and in a closed state to close the opening of the wall portion to form a closed space between the wall portion and the nozzle plate. A suction flow path has on one end side a suction port opening below the nozzle holes, and another end side is connected to a suction portion that evacuates the closed space to convert the closed space to a negative pressure chamber, thereby supplying the liquid to the nozzle holes. An atmosphere release portion switches between the open and closed states of the mechanism.
