摘要: An apparatus, method, and system are disclosed to analyze samples materials using triboluminescent technology. A mechanical activation knot is provided that comprises an optical window, a membrane, and a device that supplies a constant pressure of gas on the zone of activation. A sample is placed between the membrane and the optical window. The optical window is rotated along its z-axis. The friction between the sample and the optical window generates triboluminescence and associated optical emissions. Optical emissions may be distributed on the spectrum by a spectrograph, a monochromator, or a collection of filters, and then fixed by the charge coupled device, a photodiode, or a photomultiplier tube. Then, the results (data) are incorporated into different mathematical algorithms or programs with the help of computers or other computation technologies. The final results (the output) may be compared among themselves or with reference data stored in a computer's memory.

摘要: A method and apparatus for spectrochemical analysis of liquids, including molten metals, using laser-induced plasma spectroscopy. The apparatus preferably comprises a high power pulsed laser focused on the surface of a liquid stream flowing in a measurement cell, and an optical spectrometer-detector assembly, which receives, detects and analyzes the radiation emitted by the high temperature plasma thereby excited. The measurement cell, and optional pump, establish laminar flow of the liquid flow, thereby permitting the laser to repeatedly sample a fresh un-perturbed surface, while also ensuring that bubbles formed in the liquid are removed from the focal volume Preferably, a blower prevents aerosols and matter ejected from the sample responsive to the incident energy from interacting with subsequent laser pulses, and from accumulating on the optic.

摘要: An apparatus (10) for analyzing lubricant oils and functional fluids includes an optical emission spectrometer (OES) (26) having a substantially continuously valued wavelength versus intensity output (140). The OES (26) analyzes light captured from a spark emission stand (58) through which the fluid sample is flowed. An expert system (160-172) operates according to a set of Rules, and generates diagnostic text (174) for an operator based on the information about the fluid sample provided by the OES (26) and other measurement devices. The apparatus (10) is reduce in size, weight and cost.

The apparatus preferably comprises a high power pulsed laser focused on the surface of a liquid stream flowing in a measurement cell, and an optical spectrometer-detector assembly, which receives, detects and analyzes the radiation emitted by the high temperature plasma thereby excited. The measurement cell, and optional pump, establish a steady flow of liquid, thereby permitting the laser to repeatedly sample a fresh unperturbed surface, representative of the liquid volume, while also ensuring that bubbles and waves formed in the liquid are removed from the focal volume. Gas (usually air) blown above the liquid prevents aerosols and matter ejected from the sample responsive to the incident energy from interacting with subsequent laser pulses, and from accumulating on the optics.

摘要: Using a nebulizer gas, sub micron and micron size particulates can be generated from a solution containing salts covering a broad range of elements. The fractional concentration of elements can be determined by bubbling the aerosol through aqueous acid and analyzing the aqueous acid for metals. The nebulizer can be coupled to an ICP (Inductively Coupled Plasma) torch and the ICPMS (Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer) or ICPOES (Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometer) response to different elements can be determined. This provides the response factor of the ICPMS or ICPOES for different elements.

摘要: An apparatus and method employing a plurality of light emitting devices which each can get light through a respective optical fiber toward a respective sample of a plurality of samples in a time-staggered manner. Light is generated in each of the samples at different times consistent with the times at which light is irradiated onto the sample. A single detector is used to detect the lights emitted from the plurality of samples at these different times. A plurality of bifurcated optical cable are coupled to the light emitting devices and single light detector, and the integrated end of each bifurcated cable acts as the light emitting port and light detecting port. Multiple targets can be detected from each of the plurality of samples in the same manner by providing an apparatus and method employing a different plurality of light emitting devices and single detector for each target to be detected.
