摘要: Disclosed herein are a method and apparatus for progressively charging an electrically isolated conductive workpiece from ground potential to high potential while the workpiece is supported by a moving grounded conveyor. A portion of the conveyor is selectively included in circuit with a high voltage source and a voltage divider to charge the isolated conveyed workpieces to high electrostatic potential with respect to ground. The highly charged workpieces are conveyed past a grounded spray device dispersing atomized particles (i.e., liquid or powder) which are at electrical ground potential. In accordance with well known electrostatic coating principles, the particles will be attracted to the high potential workpiece parts and will adhere thereto. As a more specific aspect of the invention, the high potential is applied to the workpieces through a unique "brush and commutator" apparatus which sequentially and gradually increases the charging of the workpiece from ground potential to a predetermined desired level for electrostatic spray deposition in a spray zone and thereafter sequentially gradually decreases the charge on the workpiece to ground potential after exiting the spray zone.

摘要: A novel dry ceramic powder and process for its electrostatic deposition are disclosed, characterized in that the powder is coated with a liquid, curable organopolysiloxane which is polymerized to a solid form before the powder is deposited. Preferably, the polysiloxane is monosubstituted, leaving hydrogen linkages which react with surfaces of the particles comprising the ceramic powder and thereby chemically unite the polysiloxane with the particles. The present ceramic powder can be electrostatically deposited onto a substrate and retain an electrostatic charge for appreciable periods of time, even in environments having fairly high relative humidities, for example 75% and higher.

摘要: An improved apparatus for applying toner solution to a charged recording medium wherein the concentration of toner particles in the solution is continuously monitored and adjusted is disclosed. The apparatus includes means to measure toner concentration comprising a light source, a transparent chamber receiving a continuously flowing stream of toner solution and means for measuring light intensity from the light source as passed through the transparent chamber. Preferably the means for measuring light is particularly sensitive to light in the near infrared region (about 8500 Angstroms). The output signal from the means for measuring light is a measure of the concentration of toner particles in the toner solution and is used to add toner concentrate to the toner solution as the concentration of toner particles in the solution is depleted. In preferred embodiments, means for controlling the output from the light source and for measuring toner concentration independent of the position of the light source are disclosed.

摘要: Striped dichroic filter having a substantially transparent glass substrate with a surface and having first and second sets of spaced parallel stripes disposed on said surface at an angle with respect to each other and with each of said sets of stripes being capable of reflecting at least one different color and with the stripes being formed of a plurality of layers of high and low index dielectric materials. In the method for making a striped dichroic filter, first and second sets of spaced parallel stripes are sequentially formed by sequentially depositing dielectric coating materials on sequentially formed striped material which is subsequently etched away to remove the undesired portions of the coating material so that there remains first and second sets of spaced parallel stripes at angles with respect to each other and with each being capable of reflecting at least one different color.

摘要: The disclosure is concerned with a method of curing solvent-free inks by application of a powdered resin to a freshly printed surface. Powder, which does not adhere to the ink, is removed and the printed surface then is passed through a heating tunnel where the resin melts, thereby curing the ink. Optionally, the printed surface may be leveled mechanically following curing. Such leveling produces a higher gloss. Air pollution which normally is caused by solvent fumes in conventional processes is eliminated by this method. Moreover, heat energy is conserved as the need to vaporize a solvent and to carry-off the heated vapors is eliminated.
