Abstract:
A computer-implemented method of assessing the metal state of an individual by: (1) providing the individual with a wearable device (e.g., eyewear) that includes one or more sensors for assessing the mental state of the individual, (2) using information from one or more of the sensors to assess the mental state of the individual; and (3) informing the individual or a third party of the individual's mental state. In various embodiments, the method further involves using the wearable device to determine one or more environmental factors that are related to the individual's mental state. For example, the method may involve determining (e.g., from one or more images taken using the wearable device) that the individual is frequently in a stressed emotional state when a particular person is present, when the individual is engaged in a particular activity, and/or when the wearer experiences a certain internal or external context.
Abstract:
An intelligent medical vigilance system that observes and analyzes, and, only in the event of a clinically significant negative condition, notifies and reports the event to the care staff utilizing the hospital's existing nurse call system. The device includes a bedside unit connected to a pad or coverlet with a sensor array (placed under the patient) and also to an existing hospital nurse call system via an interface. The bedside unit is a wall-mounted unit with a display that becomes active when an alarm condition is enabled. Vigilance alarms are suspended if a patient is detected out of bed. An unable-to-measure alert is provided if the system is unable to reliably monitor. An alert message is generated and maintained on the display screen to inform a responding caregiver of the time and reason for any alarm.
Abstract:
A patient care system is disclosed that includes a medical device such as an infusion pump. The medical device generates a data message containing information such as the status of the therapy being delivered, operating data or both. An alarm generating system assesses the data message from the pump and generates an alarm message if certain conditions established by a first set of rules are met. The alarm message is assessed according to a second set of rules as to whether to suppress the alarm message. The data message contains a required input for both the first and second algorithms. A dispatching system is adapted to forward the alarm message to an alarm destination according to a third set of rules. The alarm destination expresses an alarm upon receipt of the alarm message.
Abstract:
A flexible conductive material may be a selectively conductive textile fabricated by intertwining yarns having different affinities to conductive impregnation. Another flexible conductive material may be formed from an array of conductive elements connected via sinuous connecting wires embedded in a flexible host material. The regions having a high conductivity may serve as conductive electrodes, for example of a pressure sensing mat.
Abstract:
The present invention includes a healthcare system for capturing and maintaining patient healthcare records and employing information in the records to proactively alert hospital workers to a condition that places patient health at risk.
Abstract:
Devices, systems, and methods are disclosed which relate to utilizing a wireless communication device which receives allergy information from network nodes. The wireless communication device contains an allergy profile for the user. When the wireless communication device receives allergy information this allergy profile is referenced to determine if any allergens near the user may cause a problem for the user. If allergens exist to which the user is allergic, a visual, aural, and/or tactile alert is output on the wireless communication device.
Abstract:
A sensor pad that is adapted to be positioned on a patient's bed or chair as part of a monitoring system that provides a signal to a caregiver when the patient rises from the bed or chair also indicates when the pad is near failure. The sensor pad includes specialized contact plate patterning that creates zones on the sensor pad.
Abstract:
An automatic identification system for communicating identifying information by coupling signals through the human body is provided. The system includes a battery powered identification device that transmits an identifying signal via a modulated carrier. The identification device is coupled to the body of the user via a coupling plate. The signal from the identification device is received by a reading device that is also coupled to the body of the user via a coupling plate. The reading device may display and/or enunciates the identifying information to the user. The coupling technique, carrier frequency, and construction of the devices are such that the identification information is not inadvertently radiated or coupled to unintentional users or receivers.
Abstract:
Apparatus and methods are described including a location sensing system that comprises a plurality of location sensors, and which is configured to identify respective locations of a plurality of clinicians, and to generate a location-sensing-system signal in response thereto. A patient-monitoring system includes a sensor, configured to measure a clinical parameter of a patient, and to generate a sensor signal in response thereto. A control unit of the patient-monitoring system includes signal analysis functionality that is configured to determine that an alert event has occurred, in response to the first sensor signal. In response to the location-sensing-system signal, the signal analysis functionality designates a first subset of the clinicians, and, in response to having determined that the alert event has occurred, the signal analysis functionality communicates the alert to the first subset of clinicians. Other applications are also described.
Abstract:
A person monitoring system is operable to predict the onset of an adverse condition of a person. The system receives first information corresponding to a feature of a person support apparatus and second information corresponding to a physiological characteristic of the person. The system calculates a condition score as a function of the first and second information. In some instances, the system alerts a caregiver if the condition score exceeds a predetermined threshold. Alternatively or additionally, the person monitoring system alerts a caregiver when a person supported on a person support apparatus is regaining consciousness by monitoring one or more of a change in position, a heart rate, and a respiration rate. A person monitoring system that monitors a person's quality of sleep and presents information concerning the quality of sleep to one or more interested parties is also disclosed.
