    摘要: A Stirling engine includes a grooved cam drive mechanism with followers having a pair of longitudinally displaced bearings. One roller bearing is adapted to ride along an upper surface of the cam groove, while the other roller bearing is adapted to ride along a lower surface of the cam groove. Each follower includes an outer shaft on which a first bearing is mounted, and an inner shaft extending through the outer shaft on which a second bearing is mounted. A preferably annular space is provided between the inner and outer shafts when the follower is in an unloaded state. Then, when the follower is engaged within the grooved cam, the inner shaft is cantilevered relative to outer shaft within the annular space and results in pre-loading the first bearing against one inner surface of the groove cam and the second bearing against an opposite inner surface of the grooved cam.

    摘要: A system and method of speed and power control for an engine in which speed and power of the engine is controlled by modulation of the load torque. The load torque is manipulated in order to cause engine speed, and hence power to be changed. To accomplish such control, the load torque undergoes a temporary excursion in the opposite direction of the desired speed and power change. The engine and the driven equipment will accelerate or decelerate accordingly as the load torque is decreased or increased, relative to the essentially fixed or constant engine torque. As the engine accelerates or decelerates, its power increases or decreases in proportion.

    摘要: An actuating mechanism for adjusting the swashplate angle in a Stirling cycle engine. A stationary mounted motor is used to drive one member of a planetary gear set. The motion of this member is transmitted through a second planetary gear set to a member connected to the swashplate. In one embodiment, a worm gear powered by a stationary mounted electric motor drives a moveable rear ring gear. The movement of the rear ring gear is transmitted through three rear planet gears and a common sun gear to produce relative movement in a front planet gear carrier. The relative movement of the front planet gear carrier is transmitted through a bevel gear to the swashplate. This embodiment allows the off-line production of swashplate actuator subassembly cartridges that can quickly be journalled to the drive shaft, joined to and properly phased with respect to the swashplate and meshed with a worm gear connected to the stationary electric motor during the assembly of a Stirling engine.

    摘要: A displacer assembly for use in a thermal regenerative machine has a housing with a displacer bore configured to carry a displacer in the displacer bore. A flexure bearing assembly is configured to carry the displacer in axial reciprocation within the displacer bore to form a clearance seal there between. A gas spring bore is formed within the displacer assembly and communicates with a gas spring volume defined by a volume forming member. A gas spring piston is carried within the gas spring bore and is configured to form a clearance seal there between. The gas spring piston and the gas spring bore cooperate with the volume forming member to form a gas spring there between. One of the gas spring bore and the gas spring piston is carried in fixed relation with the housing while the other of the gas spring bore and the gas spring piston is carried by the displacer for relative reciprocation there between. A thermal regenerative machine having the above-described displacer assembly is also taught.

    摘要: A pulse tube refrigerator includes a compression space defined by a compression piston inside a cylinder, an expansion space defined by an expansion piston inside a cylinder, the expansion piston being reciprocated at an advance angle of a constant phase difference within a range of 10.degree.-45.degree. relative to the compression piston, and first and second thermal systems communicating the compression and expansion spaces. Each thermal system has a radiator, a regenerator, a cold head and a pulse tube, with the regenerator of the second thermal system being composed of two regenerator sections. The cold head of the first thermal system is made to perform a heat exchange with the second thermal system between the two regenerator sections thereof, whereby a very low temperature is obtained from the cold head of the second thermal system.

    摘要: A Stirling engine having a configuration which allow spatial separation of the heaters and coolers. The engine includes four cylinders with passageways connecting the cylinders such that a direct fluid connection is formed between each cylinder and every other cylinder. The configuration of the passageways and arrangement of the cylinders is such that heat energy is not wasted. The spatial separation of the heaters and coolers allows the heaters and coolers to be located in separate environments. The pistons within each cylinder are connected to one or two crankshafts through a connecting device which generates no side thrust on the cylinder walls. Preferably, the connecting device used is a hydraulic connecting rod.
