    摘要: This Stirling machine comprises a transfer piston (6, 6a) and a moving part (14) of a generator or of an electric motor, the transfer piston (6, 6a) periodically displacing a working gas between an expansion chamber (VE) and a compression chamber (Vc) which chambers are respectively associated with two working faces of the transfer piston (6, 6a) of which the cross-sectional area ratio ac/aE is >0.35 so that its displacement along an axis X oriented towards the expansion volume (VE) generates an in-phase working gas pressure component Px that opposes the displacement of the piston (6, 6a), so that all of the mechanical energy produced is transmitted to the moving part (14). This machine comprises a resonant second piston (10) coupled to the transfer piston (6, 6a) by a quantity of energy that is proportional to the pressure component Px.

    摘要: A rod seal system having a pair of rod seals that form a buffer area between a high pressure area containing working gas and a low pressure area of a heat engine, such as a Stirling cycle engine. A pump that becomes passively charged with working gas at relatively low pressure and which releases working gas at relatively high pressure when actuated is used to force working gas from the buffer area to the high pressure area through a conduit. The working gas may be hydrogen gas and the pump may be a metal hydride pump that is thermally actuated. The low pressure area may contain air and lubricant at atmospheric pressure. A system for separating the lubricant collecting within the buffer area and reintroducing the lubricant into the low pressure area can also be incorporated into the rod seal system.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for protecting a relatively low temperature rated pressure seal from a relatively high temperature gas residing between a cylinder head and its associated piston. A low temperature rated pressure seal as for example an elastomeric seal is protected from high temperature gas in a heat engine, potentially in excess of 2,000.degree. F. (1093.degree. C.) by the use of an intermediary fluid that is trapped in a reservoir in the head of the cylinder said seal being maintained in a liquid fashion by a skirt extension from the head of the piston into the reservoir holding the described liquid, the intermediary liquid also being in contact with the elastomeric seal in the space between the piston and the cylinder. Additionally a heat engine operating at high efficiency utilizing the seal above described in order to maximize efficiency while eliminating leakage and loss of pressure, said heat engine deriving much of its temperature by an economizer that is a counterflow heat exchanger and from external secondary heating sources in constant volume expansion steps.
