Abstract: A method of processing video data includes classifying, by processing circuitry, luma samples of a neighboring luma block of a reference block and luma samples of a neighboring luma block of a current block into a plurality of groups and deriving, by the processing circuitry, one or more local illumination compensation parameters for each group of the plurality of groups to generate a plurality of local illumination compensation parameters for the current block. The method further includes deriving, by the processing circuitry, a plurality of linear models between the neighboring luma block of the reference block and the neighboring luma block of the current block using the plurality of local illumination compensation parameters for the current block and generating, by the processing circuitry, a prediction block using the plurality of linear models.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and apparatus are provided for adaptively switching interpolation filters during the encoding of video data or the decoding of a video bitstream. In various implementations, a set of interpolation filters can be defined and made available to coding device. The coding device can select an interpolation filter for a given coding unit. The interpolation filter can be selected based on, for example, the coding level of the coding unit, among other things. In some examples, signaling of the selected interpolation filter can be simplified by selecting a subset of the set of interpolation filters for a given coding situation. An index indicating an interpolation filter from the subset can then be signaled. Alternatively, a decoder can derive an identity of the interpolation filter from data provided by a bitstream, in which case the index need not be explicitly signaled in the bitstream.

Abstract: Context adaptive binary arithmetic coding (CABAC) techniques are generally described. Aspects of the techniques are generally directed to inheritance-based context initialization. An example video coding device includes a memory configured to store video data, and one or more processors. The processor(s) are configured to initialize context information for a current slice of a current picture by inheriting context information of a previously-coded block of a previously-coded picture of the stored video data as initialized context information for the current slice of the current picture. The processor(s) are further configured to code data of the current slice using the initialized context information.

Abstract: Techniques and systems are provided for encoding and decoding video data. For example, a method of encoding video data including a plurality of pictures is described. The method includes performing intra-picture prediction on a block of one of the pictures to generate a prediction unit. Performing the intra-picture prediction includes selecting a reference block for intra-block copy prediction of a coding tree unit (CTU). The reference block is selected from a plurality of encoded blocks, and blocks within the CTU encoded with bi-prediction are excluded from selection as the reference block. Performing the intra-picture prediction further includes performing intra-block copy prediction with the selected reference block to generate the prediction unit. The method also includes generating syntax elements encoding the prediction unit based on the performed intra-picture prediction.

For example, a method of encoding video data includes obtaining video data at an encoder, and determining to perform intra-picture prediction on the video data, using intra-block copy prediction, to generate the plurality of encoded video pictures. The method also includes performing the intra-picture prediction on the video data using the intra-block copy prediction, and, in response to determining to perform the intra-picture prediction on the video data using the intra-block copy prediction, disabling at least one of inter-picture bi-prediction or inter-picture uni-prediction for the plurality of encoded video pictures. The method also includes generating the plurality of encoded video pictures based on the received video data according to the performed intra-block copy prediction.
