Methods and systems for tracking a physical object to identify or authenticate it utilizing digital fingerprints which are based on natural features extracted from a digital image of the object. Digital fingerprints do not require or rely on any labels, tags, integrated materials, unique identification characters, codes or other items that may be added to the object specifically for the purpose of identification. Consequently, the disclosed digital fingerprint techniques help to detect or prevent unauthorized alterations of documents, apparel, drugs and pharmaceuticals, etc. Further digital fingerprints can be used to better track and trace a wide variety of objects throughout the distribution chain to demonstrate their provenance and to detect counterfeit objects.

Systems and methods using intelligent barcodes for processing mail, packages, or other items in transport are provided. Systems and methods allowing end-to-end visibility of a mail stream by uniquely identifying and tracking mail pieces are also provided. Systems and methods include the use of standardized intelligent barcodes on mail pieces, a seamless process for mail acceptance, continuous mail piece tracking, and feedback on mail quality in real time. In one embodiment, systems and methods using intelligent barcodes allow a mailing service to provide enhanced acceptance, sorting, tracking, address correction, forwarding, and delivery services. In another embodiment, systems and methods using intelligent barcodes allow a mailing service to identify a mail piece as undeliverable-as-addressed (UAA) and determine a final disposition for the mail piece. In yet another embodiment, systems and methods using intelligent barcodes allow mailers more visibility into the mail stream and information on the quality of their mailings.

In one implementation, a shortcode, sent by a client computing device, is received by a server computing device. A listing of shortcodes is referenced with the received shortcode. A match between the shortcode and another shortcode maintained in the listing is identified. A list of actions and content is identified. The list of actions and the content are transmitted to the client computing device. The list of actions include computer-executable instructions to: cause the client computing device to instantiate a process to generate an order request form using the content without user intervention and cause the client computing device to display a graphical representation of the order request form to a user. The order request form is received by the server computing device and a service, based on the order request form, is provided to the client computing device.

Improvements are disclosed for authentication of an object, verification of its provenance, and certification of the object as compliant with manufacturing standards. Or, an object may be reported as a suspected counterfeit. In one embodiment the system compares a digital fingerprint of the object, based in image capture, to digital fingerprints previously stored in a database and determines if the object has been registered before and is thus authentic. An object feature template may be created which has a list of features and attributes that are relevant for authenticating particular classes of objects. The object feature template can also be used to examine unregistered objects for signs of counterfeiting.

A system and method for providing electronic notification to a user concerning the delivery of postal mail. The system and method for electronic notification employs a transmitting station which is deployed by a user in the receptacle in which the user receives postal mail and a computer device that provides the primary user interface for the system and method for electronic notification. The transmitting station is oriented in the postal mail receptacle so that when postal mail is inserted therein, an integrated notification lever is moved from its resting position to a second position. When the notification lever is moved from its resting position a notification of mail signal is generated and transmitted to the computer device. Upon receipt of the notification of mail signal, the computer device displays a mail delivered message on its display and provides an interface to view such messages.

A campaign-triggering event is detected, which triggers contact of prospective third-party (“3rd-party”) payers for a resident of a CEF in order to encourage such prospective 3rd-party payers to establish 3rd-party payment accounts for the resident. In this manner, the prospective 3rd-party payers are proactively contacted prior to an expected future demand for service by the resident. A method thus comprises identifying at least one prospective third-party payer for a resident of a controlled-environment facility, and proactively contacting the identified at least one prospective third-party payer prior to demand for service by the resident to encourage the identified at least one prospective third-party payer to establish a third-party payment account for payment for future service expected for the resident.
