Abstract:
Disclosed and claimed are biodegradable builders for use with water-soluble organic detergent compounds. The builders are alkali metal salts of ester-acids derived from polycarboxylic acid anhydrides. Also claimed are a method for making the compounds and detergent compositions containing the disclosed compounds.
Abstract:
Unsaturated polyester resins, the polyesters of which contain 0.3 - 0.7 moles, relative to the alcohol component, of units of monohydric alcohols are outstandingly suitable for the production of cured lacquer films which are uniformly matt without matting additives when a barrier agent is used.
Abstract:
Diphenyl phthalates are purified by crystallizing them from dipolar-aprotic solvents or solutions of solvents containing such solvents. The phthalate solutions are advantageously, but not necessarily, treated in a carbon column in hydrocarbon solvent without dipolar-aprotic solvents present to remove part of the color and impurities, and then dipolar-aprotic solvents are added to the solution before crystallization to aid in the final removal of color and impurities.
Abstract:
Diesters comprising the reaction product of tetrabromophthalic anhydride and a polyhydroxy compound containing at least 3 hydroxyl groups are disclosed. The diesters are prepared, in one step, by reacting tetrabromophthalic anhydride with the polyhydroxy compound at a temperature of from about 130.degree. C. to about 190.degree. C. in the presence of an alkaline material. The diesters are especially useful in the preparation of fire-retardant, self-extinguishing, polyurethane foams.
Abstract:
Photoconductive coating compositions for application to solid substrates which are to be utilized in electrophotographic operations are described; the resultant photoconductive coatings comprise a layer of photoconductive pigment particles bonded to themselves and to the solid substrate with a binder comprising a novel interpolymer, at least one of whose constituent monomers contains bromine. Novel bromine-containing monomers are also disclosed.
Abstract:
Unsaturated esters are produced by reacting an acyclic conjugated diolefine such as butadiene with a carboxylic acid, particularly orthophthalic acid, in the presence of ethylene and a platinum or iridium compound. The esters produced are oligomers of butadiene, the ethylene giving enhanced catalyst stability and life.
Abstract:
A process for the preparation of halohydrin esters which comprises reacting a carboxylic anhydride with an epoxy halogen compound in the presence of water and a tertiary alcohol.
Abstract:
A PROCESS FOR PREPARING ESTERS WHICH INVOLVES REACTING A DIBASIC ORGANIC ACID WITH ORGANIC HALIDE IN ADDED WATER CONTAINING A SULFONIC ACID HAVING FROM 12 TO 20 CARBON ATOMS.
