摘要:
A tapered camming plug positioned within an expansion shell is threaded onto an upper end portion of an elongated bolt advanced behind a resin cartridge system into a bore hole drilled in a rock formation. A bearing plate is carried on the opposite end of the bolt and abuts the rock formation surrounding the bore hole. The cartridge is ruptured by upward thrust and rotation of the bolt to release the resin components for mixing. The mixed resin flows downwardly in the bore hole into surrounding relation with the camming plug and expansion shell. The expansion shell includes a plurality of expansion fingers each formed integral at one end portion with a ring end portion of the shell and extending upwardly to a free end portion for outward expansion into engagement with the wall of the bore hole as the camming plug advances downwardly on the bolt after the resin is mixed. The shell ring end portion has a circular opening for receiving the bolt and an outer, non-circular surface forming a wall having areas of non-uniform thickness to increase the area of the annulus between the ring end portion and the wall of the bore hole. The increased area around the ring end portion facilitates the insertion of the expansion shell assembly into the resin by permitting the resin to flow past the shell and the ring end portion and bond the expansion shell and a portion of the bolt to the rock formation within the bore hole.

An expansion anchor received within a predrilled bore for mounting a platelike panel to a portion of stratum in which the bore is drilled and including a bolt having a head on a lower end thereof, an upper portion, distal the head, defining a set of right hand threads thereon and a lower portion, intermediate the upper portion and the head, defining a set of left hand threads thereon. A destructible thrust nut having at least one groove therein is threadably connected to the lower portion and moves upwardly thereon when the rod is rotated in a clockwise direction. A cutting member, having an annular base supported by the thrust nut for sliding movement along the bolt and a plurality of cutting fingers connected to the base in divergent relation to the bolt, is urged upwardly by the thrust nut when the rod is rotated in the predetermined direction. The cutting fingers have at least one blade extending transversely thereon for cutting a groove in the stratum to expand the diameter of the bore a predetermined depth therein. An expansion nut is threadably connected to the upper portion and moves downwardly thereon to expand the cutting fingers and thereby direct the upwardly mobile cutting blades into the stratum. The downward motion of the expansion nut seats the fingers within the grooves cut thereby and secures the bolt within the bore. A rupturable resin container is provided to dispense catalyst activated resin within the bore to further secure the expansion anchor therein.

An improved expansion assembly for a mine roof bolt has a tapered plug, two expansion leaves that bear against the tapered plug, a bail that connects the expansion leaves and extends over the end of the mine roof bolt, and a breakable holding ring to keep the expansion assembly assmebled until after it is placed into the bore hole. The tapered plug has a threaded bore therethrough for threading onto the mine roof bolt. The tapered plug also has tapered surfaces that have an angle of taper of 8.degree. to the axis of the mine roof bolt. The expansion leaves each have nine serrations formed on the surface such that the serrations are formed by the intersection of a planar surface perpendicular to the axis of the mine roof bolt and a frusto-conical surface. The frusto-conical surface is at an angle of 69.degree. to the planar surface. The serrations are equally spaced from each other and have a peak to peak distance of 0.25". The expansion leaves each have a maximum length of 3". The tapered plug has a relieved upper edge and channels running longitudinally along the outer surfaces of the legs of the plug and the expansion leaves have channels formed near the end of the leaves, all for facilitating use of the expansion assembly with resin. The improved expansion assembly may be utilized with or without resin bonding.

A two-piece, malleable iron, expansion anchor for installation in a relatively small (about 1") diameter bore hole with a conventional size (5/8") bolt. The four-prong expansion shell, camming plug, and individual shell leaves each have unique features contributing to the effectiveness of the anchor when used either with or without a resin grouting mixture. The slots or spaces between adjacent shell leaves include upper and lower portions, each of constant width, the lower portion being wider than the upper portion, whereby the leaves are narrower in the area where they are bent outwardly from the closed ring at the base than in the area where they are compressionally engaged between the plug and the hole wall. Upper portions of the inner leaf surfaces taper toward the shell axis and the side edges of such surfaces taper toward one another from the upper, free ends of the leaves toward the lower ends. An axial rib extends outwardly from the surface of the camming plug over its entire length. A first group of gripping teeth or serrations on the outer leaf surfaces near the lower ends of the leaves are deeper than a second group outwardly adjacent the plug contact area.

An anchoring device, such as a rock anchor, includes an anchor rod with force transmission ribs projecting outwardly from its outside surface. An anchor nut is in threaded engagement with the rod and has at least an axially extending portion formed of a material having lesser strength than the material of the rod. The anchor nut has at least two axially extending portions spaced apart by cuts through the nut, which cuts extend transversely of the nuts central axis. The portions follow one another in the central axis direction with at least the portion closer to the body into which the anchor rod extends having the lesser strength. The nut portions are dimensioned so that the portion closer to the body loses its force locking engagement with the ribs on the rod and its threads shear off when a predetermined load is exceeded. The nut portions are interconnected by narrow webs remaining after the cuts are made in the nut separating the portions. The webs cannot transmit the anchor force when the predetermined load is exceeded, and, therefore, they act as breaking points with the two portions moving toward one another and closing off the cuts. The closure of the cuts is visible and signals that the predetermined load has been exceeded, accordingly, steps can be taken to secure the stability of the body into which the anchoring device is inserted.

A mechanical anchor including an expansion shell and an expansion plug positioned in the shell is engaged with the end of a bar having helically extending rib segments formed on the outer surface of the bar. The expansion plug has an internal bore defining a wall having a configuration to receive and mate with the helically extending rib segments formed on the outer surface of the bar. The mechanical anchor and a portion of the bar are inserted in a bore hole drilled in a rock formation and, upon rotation of the bar in a preselected direction, the expansion plug nonrotatably moves down the bar to expand the shell into engagement with the bore hole wall. As the shell engages the bore hole wall, the bar is mechanically anchored within the bore hole by the mechanical anchor. If it is desired to combine mechanical and chemical anchoring of the bar within the bore hole, the expansion plug is provided with a displaceable stop means positioned in the expansion plug bore, and a curable, two component bonding material is positioned in the bore hole ahead of the mechanical anchor. The stop means permits initial rotation of the mechanical anchor and ribbed bar within the bore hole to mix the bonding material components before the expansion shell is expanded. In addition, various other embodiments of a bar having helically extending rib segments formed on the outer surface of the bar and anchored in a bore hole are disclosed herein.

The apparatus for anchoring a bolt includes an elongated bolt with a threaded portion located at a preselected position along the length of the bolt and spaced from the end portions of the bolt. An expansion shell assembly is positioned on the bolt with the camming plug portion threadedly secured to the bolt threaded portion so that the expansion shell assembly is positioned in spaced relation to the ends of the bolt. In one embodiment, the threaded portion of the bolt includes a threaded sleeve suitably secured to the bolt at a location between the end portions of the bolt. In another embodiment, the bolt has a threaded portion located between the unthreaded end portions and a C-shaped stop member is secured on the lower portion of the threads. A camming plug is formed in longitudinal halves that are positioned around the threaded portion of the bolt and held in place by the fingers of the expansion shell assembly. A method is also disclosed where the threaded portion of the bolt is located at a preselected location between the ends of the bolt and the expansion assembly is threadedly engaged to the threaded portion of the bolt at the preselected location and is expanded to engage the bore hole at that location. A chemical bond may also be employed to engage another portion of the bolt to the bore hole.

An expansion shell is formed from a single piece of sheet metal consisting of two spade-shaped leaves connected by a narrow portion which becomes the bail. The leaves are corrugated along their transverse axes so as to form a series of undulations of increasing amplitude and the leaves are formed into semi-cylinders. The corrugated semi-cylindrical leaves are centrally slotted along their longitudinal axes so as to form four leaf segments. The corrugated leaf segments are then compressed along their longitudinal axes so as to cause the undulations to form a tapered pleated metal fold, wherein the crests of the undulations become semi-cylindrical ridges capable of gripping the rock formation.

A nut element having a frangible portion for use with an elongated bar having an upper end anchored by a resin material within a drill hole in a mine roof, or the like, and a lower end extending outside the hole and threaded to receive the nut element of the invention. The nut includes a portion spaced from the threaded opening which limits relative rotation of the nut and bar. Thus, rotation of the nut with the lower end of the bar contacting the rotation-limiting portion thereof serves to rotate the bar within the drill hole, causing the upper end of the bar to rupture a conventional two-compartment resin cartridge and mix the contents thereof. When the resin has hardened to hold the bar stationary, excess torque applied to the nut serves to break the rotation-limiting portion thereof, preferably a dome-shaped cap with an opening of smaller diameter than the threaded end of the bar, allowing the nut to be snugly secured against a roof support plate and tension the resin-anchored bar.
