摘要: A stair chair is provided and includes a seat 30, a backrest 34, a foot rest 32, upper handles 84 and lower handles 82. Three wheels 62 are mounted at each side of the chair. The wheels are pivotal about their own axis and also a common axis. Rotation about the common axis can be braked or locked. The chair can be lowered downstairs with a person pulling on the upper handle 84 and another person pushing on the lower handles 82 in order to slow movement of the chair down the stairs.

摘要: A vehicle for transporting a payload over a surface that may be irregular and may include stairs. The vehicle has a support for supporting the payload and a ground contacting element movable with respect to a local axis, where the local axis can be moved with respect to some second axis that has a defined relation with respect to the support. The vehicle also has a motorized drive arrangement for permitting controllable motion of the ground contacting element so as to operate in an operating condition that is unstable with respect to tipping in at least a fore-aft plane when the motorized drive arrangement is not powered. The vehicle also has an input device for receiving an indication from an assistant who is not disposed on the vehicle of a direction of desired motion of the vehicle.

摘要: A double-inverted wheeled passenger carrier (WPC) that is actively stabilizing on two or more axially-spaced wheels through a controller that senses and adjusts three degrees of freedom that allows the WPC to actively stabilize itself to keep a passenger essentially upright during movement, including traversing stairs and the like. The WPC (10) includes a wheel assembly (12) having at least two axially-spaced wheels (14), each wheel having an axis of rotation (15), a frame (16) having a first pivot (18) and second pivot (22), and a chair (20). The frame (16) is attached to the wheel assembly (12) at the first pivot (18). The chair (20) is attached to the frame (16) at the second pivot (22), allowing the chair (20) to rotate independently of the wheels (14).

摘要: A stairway ascending/descending vehicle which may ascend/descend the steps of the stairs having a height greater than a diameter of wheels and in which vertical vibration is suppressed. The stairway ascending/descending vehicle has main shafts rotatably supported on a front portion and a rear portion of a vehicle body, respectively. Front arm members 4L and 4R are mounted to the front main shafts, and rear arm members 5L and 5R are mounted to the rear main shaft, the front and rear arm members are configured to rotate with respect to the main shafts. Front wheels 6a and 6b are mounted on the front arm members and rear wheels 7a and 7b are to the rear arm members. Torque transmitted from each of the main shafts is transmitted through a first gear 12 connected to the main shafts to second gears 13a and 13b and third gears 14a and 14b to the wheels, the gears 12, 13a, 13b, 14a and 14b all being supported within the arm members, the gears 14a and 14b being connected to the wheels. The gear ratio defined by the gears 12, 13a, 13b, 14a and 14b determine whether the vehicle body 1 climbs a stairway in either a crawling mode or a rotational mode.

摘要: There is provided, in a preferred embodiment, a transportation vehicle for transporting an individual over ground having a surface that may be irregular. This embodiment has a support for supporting the subject. A ground-contacting module, movably attached to the support, serves to suspend the subject in the support over the surface. The orientation of the ground-contacting module defines fore-aft and lateral planes intersecting one another at a vertical. The support and the ground-contacting module are components of an assembly. A motorized drive, mounted to the assembly and coupled to the ground-contacting module, causes locomotion of the assembly and the subject therewith over the surface. Finally, the embodiment has a control loop, in which the motorized drive is included, for dynamically enhancing stability in the fore-aft plane by operation of the motorized drive in connection with the ground-contacting module. The ground contacting module may be realized as a pair of ground-contacting members, laterally disposed with respect to one another. The ground-contacting members may be wheels. Alternatively, each ground-contacting member may include a cluster of wheels. In another embodiment, each ground-contacting member includes a pair of axially adjacent and rotatably mounted arcuate element pairs. Related methods are also provided, including an indication system which modulates the pitch and repetition rate of an audible or tactile signal in accordance with speed and orientation of the vehicle.

摘要: The powered tracked vehicle is equipped with photocells (13, 45) which monitor its backward and forward movements and automatically modify their orientation according to whether the vehicle is travelling on the level or negotiating stairs or a slope. The inclinometer (25) that monitors the attitude of the chair is located in a protected inner part of the frame (3) and is connected to the chair itself by means of a hinged parallelogram (57, 59, 103, 105). The inclinometer is mounted on one of the sides of the hinged parallelogram via a pivoting support (61) which, by means of a sheathed cable (66, 65) and a feeler (67), detects whether the vehicle's front runner (70) is raised or lowered and transmits to the chair the advance backward tilt required when beginning to descend a flight of stairs. Other devices are also provided to make the vehicle as safe to operate as possible.

摘要: A vehicle which goes up and down stairs includes a vehicle body (101), front and rear wheels (102) and (103) provided at the front and rear of the vehicle body (101), respectively, front and rear auxiliary wheels (105) and (107) for lifting up or down the front and rear wheels (102) and (103) by one step of stairs, respectively, a driving unit for driving each wheel, a pivoting unit for pivoting the front and rear auxiliary wheels (105) and (107), sensors (121) to (124) for detecting a riser portion of stairs, and a control unit (120) for controlling the driving unit and the rotating unit in accordance with results of the sensors (121) to (124). Since the vehicle goes up and down stairs by rotation of the auxiliary wheels (105) and (107), a corner portion of the step of stairs is not damaged while the vehicle goes up and down stairs.
