Abstract: There is provided a polarizing plate with a retardation layer that can achieve an image display apparatus having excellent durability and excellent weatherability, and having an excellent hue. A polarizing plate with a retardation layer according to an embodiment of the present invention includes in this order: a polarizing plate including a protective layer and a polarizer; a retardation layer; and a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer. The protective layer has a light transmittance at a wavelength of 380 nm of 10% or less. The polarizing plate has a light transmittance at a wavelength of 380 nm of 5% or less. The pressure-sensitive adhesive layer has a light transmittance at a wavelength of 405 nm of 5% or less. The polarizing plate with a retardation layer has a light transmittance at a wavelength of 405 nm of 3% or less.

Abstract: There is provided a polarizing film that is excellent in optical characteristics, and is excellent in durability and water resistance. A polarizing film according to an embodiment of the present invention includes a polyvinyl alcohol-based resin film having a thickness of 10 μm or less. The polyvinyl alcohol-based resin film has an iodine concentration of 6.0 wt % or less; and the polarizing film has a cross-linking index defined by the below-indicated equation of from 100 to 200: (Cross-linking index)=(Iodine concentration in film)×(Boric acid concentration in film).

Abstract: A pressure-sensitive adhesive layer-attached polarizing film of the invention includes: a polarizing film; and a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer provided on the polarizing film, wherein the polarizing film includes a polarizer and a transparent protective film provided on only one side of the polarizer, the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer is provided on a side of the polarizer where the transparent protective film is absent, and the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer is made of a pressure-sensitive adhesive composition containing a (meth)acryl-based polymer (A) and an alkali metal salt (B). The pressure-sensitive adhesive layer-attached polarizing film has a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer with an antistatic function and satisfactory durability and whose optical properties are less likely to be degraded.

The polarizing film exhibits a property that a value expressed by the following formula: Aa×(Is/Ia), is 0.53 or more, where: Aa represents an absorbance; Ia represents a value obtained by integrating a distribution of integrated intensities in the thickness direction of the polarizing film; and Is represents a value obtained by integrating, a distribution of integrated intensities in the thickness direction of the polarizing film; and the adhesive layer exhibits a property that a difference between a refractive index of the adhesive layer and a refractive index in the absorption axis direction of the polarizing film at the first surface of the polarizing film is 0.08 or less.
