Abstract:
The subject invention pertains to B.t. toxins active against pests. More specifically, the subject invention pertains to truncated Cry6A toxins. These activated toxins are particularly effective for controlling coleopteran pests such as the corn rootworm and the alfalfa weevil.
Abstract:
Disclosed are compositions and processes for controlling lepidopteran pests. These compositions comprise synergistic combinations of a CryIF chimeric and CryIA(c) chimeric Bacillus thuringiensis .delta.-endotoxin. These compositions have been found to exhibit excellent activity against lepidopteran pests.
Abstract:
The invention concerns novel hybrid pesticidal toxins. These toxins are expressed as the fusion protein of a chimeric gene. Specifically exemplified is a novel B.t. hybrid toxin. These novel toxins have increased toxicity against target pests. The invention also concerns a process for preparing a hybrid virus having an altered insect host range.
Abstract:
A novel B.t. isolate with activity against lepidopteran insects is disclosed. This isolate is highly active against the beet armyworm. A gene from this isolate has been cloned. The DNA encoding the B.t. toxin can be used to transform various prokaryotic and eukaryotic microbes to express the B.t. toxin. These recombinant microbes can be used to control lepidopteran insects in various environments.
Abstract:
A liquid crystal display comprises (a) a first transparent base; (b) a plurality of first picture electrodes on the first transparent base; (c) a plurality of data lines for supplying electrical signals to the first picture electrodes; (d) a second transparent base, parallel to and spaced apart from the first transparent base; (e) a plurality of second picture electrodes on the second transparent base; (f) a plurality of varistor elements made of a varistor material comprising zinc oxide as a primary metal oxide and cobalt and praseodymium oxides as additive metal oxides, in amounts of between 0.1 and 8.0 atom % cobalt and between 0.08 and 8.0 atom % praseodymium, one varistor element being associated with and in electrical contact each second picture electrode; (g) a plurality of scan lines for supplying electrical signals to the second picture electrodes via the respective associated varistor elements; and (h) electrooptically active liquid crystal material between the first and second picture electrodes. In a preferred embodiment, the plurality of varistor elements is in the form of a varistor array comprising an integral body of varistor material having two major opposing faces, one of the opposing faces having an array of indentations thereon, each indentation defining a varistor element.
Abstract:
A mug shot acquisition system is disclosed that includes an image acquisition interface that is operative to receive digital mug shot images from an imaging device. An image viewing display is responsive to the image acquisition interface and operative to display the received digital mug shot images. One or more standards-based image adjustment software tools allow the digital mug shot images to be adjusted to meet at least one predetermined mug shot image uniformity standard. The system also includes a software interface responsive to requests to initiate one or more operations by the mug shot acquisition system, and an image export interface operative to export digital mug shot images adjusted based on the standards-based image adjustment software.
Abstract:
A method of using a kiosk to dispense funds, a portion of which has a value less than the value of the lowest form of currency the kiosk dispenses. The method may include receiving information at the kiosk identifying a source for the funds and transmitting a request to a host computer to verify the source for the funds. The method may include receiving at the kiosk a verification of the funds and displaying on a display screen an amount of funds available for payment. The method may include receiving at the kiosk a request from a user to remit a first portion of the amount of funds in a first form, wherein the first form is selected from a group consisting of paper currency, money order, credit to an account, and credit to a stored value card. The method may include remitting the first portion in the first form and displaying a set of options for receiving a second portion of the amount of funds, wherein the set of options is selected from a group consisting of a money order, a donation, a credit to a stored value card, and a credit to an account. The method may include receiving a request from the user to remit the second portion of the amount of funds in a second form selected from the set of options. The first form and the second form may be different, and the kiosk may be configured to dispense money orders upon receipt of a request from the user to remit the first portion as a money order.
Abstract:
A beverage preparation apparatus for preparation of a beverage from a capsule in a clamp assembly (30). The clamp assembly has a first clamp member (31) and a second clamp member, where the inner surfaces of the first clamp member and the second clamp member form a clamp chamber (33) for substantially enclosing and supporting a capsule (10) during beverage preparation. The second clamp member comprises a rigid peripheral frame (32) having a central void and a resilient layer (37) extending across said central void. There is a piston (36) positioned in the central void and resiliently coupled to the peripheral frame (32) to allow limited resilient movement of the rigid peripheral frame (32) relative to the piston (36).
Abstract:
Examples disclosed herein relate to systems and methods, which may receive wagers on one or more paylines. The systems and methods may utilize one or more symbol positions which may provide additional gaming functionality. The systems and methods may determine one or more payouts based on the additional gaming functionality. The systems and methods may display one or more presentations based on the additional gaming functionality. The systems and methods may utilize a first display device. The first display device may include a first display area, a first silk-screen area, a first insulation area, and a first border area. The first display area, the first silk-screen area, the first insulation area, and the first border area may be flush with each other. The first insulation area may provide electrical isolation between the first border area and the first display area and/or the silk-screen area. The first insulation area may provide a mechanical buffer between the border area and the first display area and/or the silk-screen area.
Abstract:
A surfactant component and a composition comprising the same are provided. The surfactant component comprises a first surfactant, a second surfactant, and water. The first surfactant comprises an alcohol alkoxylate having a high degree of alkoxylation of greater than 30 to 150. The first surfactant is present in an amount of from 1% to 50% by weight based on the total weight of the surfactant component. The second surfactant is present in an amount of at least 5% by weight based on the total weight of the surfactant component. Water is present in an amount of from 20% to 90% by weight based on the total weight of the surfactant component. The second surfactant enables higher concentrations of the first surfactant in water to be achieved without gelling than what has been accomplished to date.
