Abstract: A device detects a first press input followed by a second press input on the button. The device provides a first non-visual output in response to the first press input and before the second press input. Depending on the amount of time lag between the first press input and the second press input, the device provides either a second non-visual output in conjunction with performing a first operation or a third non-visual output in conjunction with performing a second operation, where the second non-visual output and the third non-visual output have different output profiles.

A priming cue can be a haptic priming cue, a visual priming cue, an audio priming cue, or various combinations of these priming cues. Abstract: A method for adjusting audio being outputted through a beam forming loudspeaker array. Program audio is rendered to drive the loudspeaker array to produce sound beams having i) a main content pattern that is aimed at a listener, superimposed with ii) several diffuse content patterns that are aimed away from the listener. In response to receiving an alert message that refers to alert audio, the portion of the program audio in the main pattern is moved into the diffuse patterns, and the alert audio is rendered to drive the loudspeaker array so that the portion of the program audio in the main pattern is replaced with the alert audio. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

Abstract: An electronic device receives an incoming communication and determines that the device is in a first use context. In response to receiving the incoming communication, the device provides first feedback that includes a first ongoing audio output that corresponds to the first use context and a first ongoing tactile output with a first tactile output profile that corresponds to the first use context. While providing the first ongoing audio output and the first ongoing tactile output, the device detects that the electronic device is in a second use context, different from the first use context. In response to detecting that the electronic device is in the second use context, the device provides second feedback that includes a second ongoing tactile output that has a second tactile output profile that corresponds to the second use context.

Abstract: An electronic device with a touch-sensitive surface, a display, and tactile output generator(s) displays a user interface including an object and predetermined snap positions. The device detects a first portion of an input by a contact on the object to select the object. In response to detecting the object selection, the device visually indicates the selection and generates a first tactile output. While the object is selected, the device detects a movement of the contact as the second portion of the input by the contact. According to the contact movement, the device moves the object. After detecting the second portion and while the object is proximate to a predetermined snap position, the device detects a third portion of the input by the contact to drop off the object. In response, the device visually indicates the deselection, moves the object to the predetermined snap position; and generates a second tactile output.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus organize a plurality of haptic output variations into a cohesive semantic framework that uses various information about the alert condition and trigger, application context, and other conditions to provide a system of haptic outputs that share characteristics between related events. In some embodiments, an event class or application class provides the basis for a corresponding haptic output. In some embodiments, whether an alert-salience setting is on provides the basis for adding an increased salience haptic output to the standard haptic output for the alert. In some embodiments, consistent haptics provide for branding of the associated application class, application, and/or context.
