Abstract: At a device with a touch-sensitive surface, a display, and one or more tactile output generators, a button configuration user interface that includes a plurality of tactile output settings for a button is displayed on the display, wherein the button is available on the device in a plurality of different contexts to cause performance of a respective operation in response to an input of a first type detected on the button. While a respective tactile output setting for the button is selected in the button configuration user interface, in response to detecting a first input of a first type on the button, a respective tactile output that corresponds to the respective tactile output setting is generated without causing performance of the respective operation.

Abstract: A device detects a first press input followed by a second press input on the button. The device provides a first non-visual output in response to the first press input and before the second press input. Depending on the amount of time lag between the first press input and the second press input, the device provides either a second non-visual output in conjunction with performing a first operation or a third non-visual output in conjunction with performing a second operation, where the second non-visual output and the third non-visual output have different output profiles.

Abstract: An electronic device detects a change in intensity of an input on an input element that includes detecting an increase in intensity followed by a decrease in intensity, and determines whether the first decrease in intensity of the input meets up-click detection criteria, which require that the intensity of the input decrease below a first up-click intensity threshold in order for the up-click detection criteria to be met. The first up-click intensity threshold is time varying, in accordance with the detected intensity of the input during the first decrease in intensity of the input. If the first decrease in intensity of the input meets the up-click detection criteria, first feedback is provided, indicating that the first decrease in intensity of the input was recognized as an up-click, and if the first decrease in intensity of the input does not meet the up-click detection criteria, the first feedback is not provided.

Abstract: An electronic device receives, at an application-independent module, user interface information from an application. The user interface information corresponds to one or more displayed user interface elements with one or more dimensions defined by an application-specific module of the application. The electronic device receives an input directed toward one or more of the displayed user interface elements, and, at the application-independent module, determines one or more tactile outputs to be generated based on a magnitude of the input and the one or more dimensions defined by the applications-specific module. Using the one or more tactile output generators, the electronic device generates the determined one or more tactile outputs.

Abstract: An application-independent module associates a first type of event with a first tactile output and a distinct second type of event with a different second tactile output. An electronic device receives and generates a response to first information from a first application by generating the first tactile output using one or more tactile output generators if the first information corresponds to an application event of the first type; and generating the second tactile output using the one or more tactile output generators if the first information corresponds to an application event of the second type. The electronic device receives and generates a response to second information from a distinct second application by generating the first tactile output if the second information corresponds to an application event of the first type; and generating the second tactile output if the second information corresponds to an application event of the second type.

While displaying the user interface, the device detects a first portion of an input by a first contact on the touch-sensitive surface, and detects a first movement of the first contact on the touch-sensitive surface. The device further, in response to detecting the first portion of the input that includes the first movement of the first contact, in accordance with a determination that the first movement of the first contact meets first movement-threshold criteria that are a precondition for performing a first operation, generates a first tactile output, and in accordance with a determination that the first movement of the first contact does not meet the first movement-threshold criteria for the first operation, forgoes generation of the first tactile output.

Abstract: An electronic device detects a change in intensity of an input on an input element that includes detecting an increase in intensity followed by a decrease in intensity, and recognizes at least a portion of the change in intensity of the input as a first input event that is associated with a first operation, for example a single click operation. After recognizing the first input event, the device delays performance of the first operation while monitoring subsequent changes in intensity of the input for a second input event, wherein the delay is limited by a default delay time period. If the second event is recognized before default delay time period has elapsed, a second operation is performed and the first operation is not performed. However, if early-confirmation criteria for the first input event are met before the default delay period elapses, the first operation is performed.

Abstract: An electronic device displays a user interface and detects an occurrence of a first condition that triggers a first user interface event, including display of one or more changes to the user interface, associated with a tactile output. The device is not able to generate the tactile output associated with the first user interface event for a respective amount of time. In response to detecting the occurrence of the first condition, in accordance with a determination that the first user interface event corresponds to a first user interface event category, the device delays generation of the first user interface event for at least the respective amount of time, and, thereafter, displays the one or more changes to the user interface in synchronization with generation of the tactile output associated with the first user interface event.

Abstract: An electronic device displays a user interface including a slider control that represents a continuous range of values between a first value and a second value, the slider control includes a first end that corresponds to the first value and a second end that corresponds to the second value, and the slider control further includes a movable indicator configured to move along the slider control between the first and the second end. The device detects a contact on the slider control followed by a movement of the contact. In response to the movement detection, the device moves the moveable indicator along the slider control and generates a tactile output upon the moveable indicator reaching the first end of the slider control with a tactile output pattern configured based on a movement speed when the moveable indicator reaches the first end.
