Abstract:
There is disclosed an image retrieval system for analyzing an image in a first color model format and detecting and retrieving from the image a selected image portion. The image retrieval system comprises an image processor for converting pixels in the image from the first color model format to a (Yr&thgr;) color model format, where Y is an intensity component indicating a total amount of light, r is a saturation component indicating an amount of white light mixed with a color of each pixel, and &thgr; is a hue component indicating the color of each pixel. The image processor groups spatially adjacent pixels into image regions according to hue components of the adjacent pixels and performs a merging process wherein a first image region and an adjacent second image region are merged into a composite region if a hue difference between the first and second image regions is less than a predetermined hue difference threshold. The process is repeated to continually merge regions of similar hue until no further merges can be performed.
Abstract:
A method and image processing system are disclosed that extract facial feature information from an image using biometrics information of a face. Regions of interests such as a face, eyes, nose and mouth are defined in the image. A combination of disparity mapping, edge detection and filtering are then used to extract coordinates/positions of the facial features in the regions of interest.
Abstract:
Vulcanizates with desirable properties can be obtained from compounds incorporating polymers that include hydroxyl group-containing α-methylstyrene functionalities. The functionalities can be incorporated by using any or all of appropriate initiators, monomers and optional terminating compounds. Such polymers exhibit excellent interactivity with both conventional and non-conventional fillers.
Abstract:
A video processing system dynamically adjusts video processing prediction error reduction computations in accordance with the amount of motion represented in a set of image data and/or available memory resources to store compressed video data. In at least one embodiment, video processing system adjusts utilization of prediction error computational resources based on the size of a prediction error between a first set of image data, such as current set of image data being processed, and a reference set of image data relative to an amount of motion in a current set of image data. Additionally, in at least one embodiment, the video processing adjusts utilization of prediction error computation resources based upon a fullness level of a data buffer relative to the amount of motion in the current set of image data.
Abstract:
A touchless input device has image sensors on the side of a surface to capture the positions and movement of fingers or any visible objects working near or on the surface. Embodiments include touchless data entry keyboards, touchless pointing devices, and touchless screens. It provides better performance, finer resolution, and more clearly defined action space than infrared beam based touchless input devices. In particular, one embodiment merges the space for data entry and the space for cursor movement into one and reduces the number of devices and working space needed by users.
Abstract:
Compositions and methods are included for preparing a hairy polymeric nanoparticle including first and second shell block polymer arms are at least partially phase-separated and surround a polymeric core. One type of polymeric arm can have a greater polarity than the other type(s) of polymeric arms. A rubber composition including the hairy nanoparticles is also provided.

Abstract:
A macromolecule includes a functional group including imine functionality bonded to a polymer chain. Where desired, the functional group also can contain additional (e.g., amine and/or silane) functionality. The material can be provided by reacting a polymer including carbonyl functionality with a compound including a primary amino group. The functional group can interact with particulate filler such as, e.g., carbon black and silica.
Abstract:
A macromolecule including a polymer and a polyhedral radical chemically bonded to a terminus of the polymer provides numerous processing and performance advantages. Further functionalization of this macromolecule also is described as being advantageous in certain circumstances. Methods of providing, functionalizing, and utilizing the macro-molecule also are provided.
