Abstract: A method of wireless communication, the method including: communicating, by a first wireless communication device with a second wireless communication device, communication signals using a first beam; detecting a failure of the first beam; in response to the failure of the first beam, determining that the first beam is associated with a first beam recovery group of a plurality of beam recovery groups; transmitting a beam failure recovery signal to the second wireless communication device based on determining that the first beam is associated with the first beam recovery group; and communicating, by the first wireless communication device with the second wireless communication device, the communication signals at least in part using a second beam.

Abstract: User equipment associated with a legacy network may utilize a bottom-to-top search technique to identify relevant control channel samples. Generating a control channel that is configured for the bottom-to-top search technique may lead to poor performance in a single-carrier waveform, which may be disadvantageous as networks move toward New Radio. In some aspects, described herein, a base station generates a control channel that is configured to minimize gaps in the control channel, and a user equipment performs a top-to-bottom search technique to identify relevant control channel samples. By using the top-to-bottom search technique, degradation of single-carrier waveforms is reduced and efficiency is improved.

Abstract: A method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus are provided for wireless communication at a user equipment. The UE receives an indication from a base station that a medium access control-control element (MAC-CE) activation of a pathloss reference signal is enabled. The UE receives a MAC-CE activating the pathloss reference signal. The UE determines the pathloss reference signal based on the MAC-CE and the indication that indicates that the MAC-CE activation of the pathloss reference signal is enabled. Then, the UE estimates a downlink pathloss based on the pathloss reference signal that is activated by the MAC-CE.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for reporting and responding to beam failure events based on a receiving cell restriction rule. An example method includes detecting an occurrence of a threshold number of beam failures for a connection between a UE and a set of cells; identifying a candidate beam for restoring the connection between the UE and the set of cells in response to detecting the occurrence of the threshold number of beam failures; transmitting, to one or more cells in the set of cells, a beam failure recovery (BFR) request including an identification of the candidate beam; receiving, from a cell in the set of cells, a BFR response in response to transmitting the BFR request, wherein the BFR response is received according to a restriction rule; and resuming communications with the set of cells based on the BFR response.

Abstract: Aspects relate to mechanisms for wireless communication devices to report a beam failure. A UE detects a beam failure with a cell. The UE transmits a beam failure recovery request including an indication of a candidate beam to a base station in response to detecting the beam failure. The base station transmits a beam failure recovery response to the UE indicating whether the beam failure recovery request is received. The UE applies the candidate beam indicated in the beam failure recovery request for a downlink channel following a predetermined number of symbols after an end of the beam failure recovery response. The UE transmits an acknowledgment (ACK) message to the base station when the beam failure recovery response is decoded. The UE applies the candidate beam indicated in the beam failure recovery request for a downlink channel following a predetermined number of symbols after an end of the ACK message.
