Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. Different transmission time interval (TTI) durations may be supported and configured to coexist with one another. A set of TTIs with a relatively short duration may overlap in time with longer duration TTIs. Boundaries of TTIs with a relatively short duration may be configured to align with boundaries of relatively longer duration TTIs. For example, TTIs that are a Long Term Evolution (LTE) subframe, an LTE slot, and a duration of two LTE symbol periods may be supported. Two-symbol period TTIs may align with or be embedded within slot-duration TTIs, which, in turn, may align with or be embedded within a subframe. In some examples, one or more symbol periods of a subframe may be designated as a gap between two-symbol TTIs within the subframe, or such symbols may be merged with a two-symbol TTI within the subframe.

Abstract: Techniques are described for wireless communication. A first method may include performing a clear channel assessment (CCA) on an unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band; transmitting an indication of a time division duplexing (TDD) configuration over the unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band when the CCA is successful; and transmitting downlink data over the unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band in accordance with the TDD configuration when the CCA is successful. A second method may include performing a CCA on an unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band; dynamically determining, based at least in part on at least one grant to a user equipment (UE), and for a period following the CCA, a number of uplink subframes for communication over the unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band; and transmitting downlink data over the unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band in accordance with the timing of the number of uplink subframes when the CCA is successful.

Abstract: Control information associated with a transmission layer of a downlink transmission for a co-scheduled UE may be included in a companion DCI message. The companion DCI message may be sent to a first UE in addition to a self DCI message that communicates information associated with a transmission layer of the downlink transmission for the first UE. For example, a base station may transmit a self DCI message associated with a first transmission layer for a first UE and a companion DCI message associated with a second transmission layer for a co-scheduled UE in a control channel. The first UE may identify the self DCI message and the companion DCI message, and may then receive the downlink transmission based on the self and companion DCI messages. The UE may decode the downlink transmission based on the information included in both the self DCI message and the companion DCI message.

Abstract: A precoding scheme to accommodate user equipment (UEs) having higher Doppler speeds. In such transmission schemes, a different precoding matrix is applied to each orthogonal frequency division multiplex (OFDM) symbol in the transmission stream. Additionally, a downlink control message format is defined to handle assignment of multiple different transmission schemes using the same message format. The downlink control message format includes a control element in one of the message fields along with a set of parameters specifically applicable to the assigned transmission scheme. Based on the value of this control element, the UE sets the specific transmission scheme and determines a set of interpretation rules uniquely associated with that transmission scheme. Using the interpretation rules, the UE is able to read the set of parameters as applied to the selected transmission scheme.

Different control information for the different TTIs may be transmitted using control channel resources that are established for communication of control information, such as a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH), for example. Control information for a first TTI may be located in a first set of resources, and control information for a second TTI may be located in a second set of resources. The first set of resources may be located within a first search space that may be searched by a user equipment (UE) to identify the first control information. The second set of resources may be located within a second search space that may be searched by the UE to identify the second control information.

Abstract: For an enhanced physical downlink control channel (EPDCCH), unlimited traffic-to-pilot ratio (TPR) variations across resource elements of a physical resource block (PRB) pair is problematic because of the detrimental affect the variations will have on the ability of a user equipment (UE) to perform inter-cell/intra-cell interference suppression (IS) and/or interference cancellation (IC) on EPDCCH of an interfering cell. A TPR limitation is placed on EPDCCH to facilitate IS/IC without causing practical limitations on EPDCCH management by an eNB. Accordingly, a method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for wireless communication are provided. The apparatus identifies a plurality of resource elements of at least one PRB pair for transmitting one or more control channels, divides the plurality of identified resource elements into one or more groups, and restricts a plurality of resource elements in a respective group to a TPR.

Abstract: Enhanced sounding reference signal (SRS) transmissions for multiple input, multiple output (MIMO) operation are disclosed in which a user equipment (UE) detects an observed interference level for each receiver chain of the UE. In response to an imbalance, the UE precodes a SRS targeting downlink operation to indicate the imbalance. The UE then transmits the precoded SRS. In alternative aspects, the precoded SRS vector may be determined by an evolved nodeB (eNB). In such aspects, the eNB determines the precoded SRS vector targeting downlink operations for the served UEs, wherein the determined precoded SRS vector includes determining the precoded SRS vector on a per UE basis, enabling the precoded SRS vector for either one or both of frequency division duplex (FDD) systems and time division duplex (TDD) systems, or enabling the precoded SRS vector for aperiodic SRS only. The eNB then transmits the determined precoded SRS vector to the UE.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A wireless device may identify a transmission mode that specifies a rank indicator (RI) feedback parameter for channel state indicator (CSI) reporting, and may determine that the appropriate CSI configuration excludes an RI. The device may then send CSI reports with a precoding matrix indicator (PMI) and without the RI, and it may communicate using the transmission mode. In some cases, the PMI may be based on a default rank (e.g., rank of 1 for device with single antenna). In some cases, a category or capability of the device may be identified, and the determination that the CSI configuration excludes the RI may be based on the category or capability. In other cases, the CSI configuration may be based on channel conditions. In some cases, a reference signal (e.g., a CRS) may be used as feedback depending on the device's capabilities.
