    摘要: In the preferred version of the invention, the lamp-starter combination is mounted on a three-terminal screw-base of the type used with regular three-way incandescent lamps; and the two terminals required for operating the lamp-starter combination are connected with the outer threaded terminal and the middle (or the third) terminal of the base--leaving the center terminal non-connected. By using this version of a screw-base-mounted fluorescent lamp in a lamp socket of the type used with three-way incandescent lamps--but without having a switch in the socket--and by connecting the power line voltage to the third socket electrode by way of the current-limiting inductor means, this lamp will properly operate therein. Yet, if by mistake this lamp is inserted into a regular one-way incandescent-type lamp socket furnished with a non-current-limited power line voltage, the lamp will not be destroyed. Moreover, by connecting the non-current-limited power line voltage to the center electrode of this socket, regular one-way incandescent lamps may be properly used therein, thereby providing for a lamp socket that is adapted to properly using either a regular incandescent lamp or, alternately and interchangeably, a non-self-ballasted fluorescent lamp.

    摘要: The lamp shown herein is a beam mode fluorescent lamp for general lighting applications. The lamp comprises a light transmitting envelope, having a phosphor coating on its inner surface, enclosing a single electrode including a thermionic cathode for emitting electrons and an integral anode for accelerating the electrons and forming an electron beam, and a fill material, such as mercury, which emits ultraviolet radiation upon excitation. The electrode configuration provides for use of a single power source and minimal number of power leads. In addition, a separate cathode heater filament is not required.

    摘要: A circular fluorescent lamp unit comprises a circular tubular fluorescent mp; a housing secured inside the space formed by the circular fluorescent lamp, the housing containing the ballast and starting device; and a base for connection to a supply voltage, the base being connected to the housing concentrically with the circular fluorescent lamp. The improvement resides in that the housing is an elongate hollow body which extends diametrically across the space defined by the circular fluorescent lamp; the housing having one end for enclosing the ends of the circular fluorescent lamp and another end for taking support against the wall of the circular fluorescent lamp which is diametrically opposite to the ends of the circular fluorescent lamp. In a preferred embodiment, the housing comprises two interconnected form locking housing cup-shaped members.

    摘要: A mercury vapor lamp having a light transmissive envelope defining an arcuate capillary plasma cavity. A mounting base secured to one end of the envelope has a configuration which is geometrically unique with respect to the position and spatial orientation of the plasma cavity. A mounting block and clamping arrangement have a configuration complementary to that of the lamp base so as to receive and releasably secure the lamp base and, therefore, the plasma cavity in a fixed predetermined position and orientation relative to its operating environment. The lamp is energized by means of an electrical potentional applied to electrodes in the plasma cavity or by reactance coupling an r-f power source to the cavity.

    摘要: An improved low pressure mercury vapor discharge lamp having an elongated vitreous envelope with electrodes sealed into its ends. At least one of said electrodes is connected to an outwardly flared stem which is sealed to one end of the envelope. The stem is partially coated with an amalgam-forming metal which becomes the main amalgam during lamp operation. The stem is also coated with a ceramic between the amalgam-forming metal and the electrode to prevent migration of the amalgam during operation.
