A method of marking a curved median with a passive elongated flexible roadway marking device entails bending the device to conform to the curved bullnose shape of a roadway median, adhesively attaching the device to the surface of the median and then mechanically fastening the device to the median. Bending notches with stress relief vertices may be provided in a flange of the spline to facilitate concave bending of that flange. Attachment holes may be provided in flanges of the spline, in an alternating arrangement. Spaced apart retro-reflective tape strips are applied to the curved outer surface of the protrusion.

A retroreflective device securable to a highway by bonding thereto preferably with a viscous strip applied to the highway prior to solidifying cure of the strip includes a generally globular glass central member, a desirably pigmented adhesive layer over the central member and a plurality of peripheral globular glass members connected to the central member by the pigmented adhesive layer. A method for fabricating the retroreflective device is also disclosed.

Apparatus is disclosed for forming a serial array of temporary raised pavement markers (TRPMs), which are disposed upon a single, common release liner, into a collated and nested array of the temporary raised pavement markers (TRPMs) such that the collated and nested array of temporary raised pavement markers (TRPMs) can be supplied to apparatus for dispensing and applying the temporary raised pavement markers (TRPMs) onto pavement surfaces. In accordance with a first embodiment of the apparatus, the plurality of temporary raised pavement markers (TRPMs) are formed from a single temporary raised pavement marker (TRPM) extrusion, the extrusion is cut, and subsequently, the markers are mounted upon the single, common release sheet or release liner which has a plurality of adhesive patches previously disposed thereon. The assembly, comprising the plurality of temporary raised pavement markers (TRPMs) and the common release liner, is then formed into a collated and nested array. In accordance with a second embodiment of the apparatus, a plurality of pre-formed temporary raised pavement markers (TRPMs), having adhesive patches already disposed thereon, are serially deposited and adhered onto a single, common release liner, and subsequently, the assembly, comprising the plurality of temporary raised pavement markers (TRPMs) and the common release sheet or release liner, are formed into a collated and nested array.

A system for inhibiting a wheeled, personal mobility unit, such as skateboards and in-line skates, from sliding along a surface having two or more surface portions oriented at mutually different angles has at least one part having a contact surface that generally complements the two or more surface portions of the surface. The part also has a body extending from the contact surface and terminating at an exposed surface. The part may have hinges to enable the part to bend and conform to complement the surface. The part may have three dimensional features extending from the contact surface for increased adhesive contact area relative to a flat contact surface. The contact surface of the part may be attached by adhesion or other methods to the surface.
Abstract:
A highway warning system which is capable of being temporarily secured to the road surface and easily removed from the road surface and provides drivers with an audible and vibration warning when approaching roadway construction sites. The system being a mat or plurality of mats temporarily secured to the road surface, the mat or mat having a wave-like upper surface defined by a series of alternating wave heights and troughs which when contacted by the wheels of a vehicle provide an audible sound as well as a slight vibration thereby warning the approaching driver to be alert.

A patterned shaped article is produced by a method which includes the steps of supplying a first material onto a given surface until the first material forms a layer of predetermined thickness, removing part of the layer to form at least one concave portion in the layer, filling the at least one concave portion with at least one kind of second material different in color and quality from the first material, and causing the first and second materials to set into an integral mass. When the first material is dry, the second material may be either dry or wet. When the first material is wet, the second material is dry and the moisture of the first wet material is absorbed before the step of removing part of the layer of the first material.
Abstract:
A machine and method of use to form Sonic Noise Alert Pattern (SNAP) type depressions in the surface of an asphalt road in a series to line the edge or center of a road. The machine installs a plurality of depressions in a group during a single cutting procedure. A repetition of these cutting procedures results in the desired series being formed. The machine has a single rotary type milling head with spaced sets of bits which will engage the surface of the road. Only where the spaced sets contact the surface will the cutting action be performed. From a stationary position an initial plunge cut brings the rotary cutting head in contact with the surface. Then a lateral movement of the rotary cutting head results in elongating and forming the desired sized depressions. Then the rotary cutting head is raised, the machine is advanced and the prior steps are repeated in repetition until the desired number of depressions have been formed.
