Abstract:
The present invention incorporates to a new temporary, reusable, retroreflective, raised pavement marker design. The pavement marker utilizes a water soluble, adhesive embedded in a fibrous base material for application to the pavement. This temporary adhesion method allows the pavement marker to be reused after removal from the pavement. The semispherical shape of the marker provides increased lateral stability. The recesses on the top surface of the marker protect the retroreflective microspheres from loss of retrorefectivity from vehicular abrasion. The round shape also allows the marker to be used to form arrows and other pavement markings.
Abstract:
Embodiments of the invention are directed to a traffic control assembly, which includes a base selectively mountable adjacent a roadway, a flexible tubular member coupled to the base, a reinforced retaining member, and a retaining pin. In accordance with at least one embodiment, the reinforced retaining member, when positioned in a recess in the base, is configured to secure the flexible tubular member to the base.
Abstract:
A road marker and related light based warning device are described. The road marker or device includes a thermal sensor that triggers the illumination of at least one light-emitting diode at a predetermined temperature. The temperature may be associated with ice formation. The light-emitting diode(s) may flash to alert motorists to hazardous road conditions. The road marker or device utilize simple components to increase reliability, particularly when the device is subjected to high heat such as when the device is mounted into hot tar seal. The device further includes a switching element that prevents rapid on/off cycling.
Abstract:
A reflector for a road sign and a manufacturing method thereof are provided. The road sign reflector includes a base attached to a road facility or a road surface, light-transmitting bodies mounted on the base and made of a transparent material, and a reflective layer formed on a contact surface between the light-transmitting bodies and the base and reflecting light incident into the light-transmitting bodies. The manufacturing of the road sign reflector is completed by attaching the road sign reflector to a center line and a lane. The road sign reflector can be directly attached to a guardrail and road facilities without installation of an additional post, thereby facilitating the installation work. In the road sign reflector, the reflective layer formed on the light-transmitting bodies is inwardly inserted in the base and exposed surfaces of the light-transmitting bodies are exposed to the outside of the base, thereby increasing reflecting efficiency.
Abstract:
A marker for attachment to a permeable paver that includes a structure having a plurality of honeycombed, hexagon-shaped cells with upstanding sidewalls, the sidewall of each cell having an upper surface and a lower surface, an inner surface and an outer surface, and a thickness, the marker comprising a generally planar cap having a substantially hexagonal perimeter that is dimensioned to span across a hexagon-shaped cell of the paver such that the perimeter of the cap substantially matches the outer surface of the sidewalls of the cell.
Abstract:
In various embodiments, a multi-application apparatus may be configured to be mounted on a vehicle. The multi-application apparatus may include a sprayer configured to apply a profileable material to an area of a driving surface during a pass of the vehicle by the area to create a first marking. The multi-application apparatus may also include an applicator configured to apply the profileable material to at least a portion of the area of the driving surface during the same pass of the vehicle by the area to create a second marking. The second marking may have a more varied profile than the first marking. In various embodiments, the multi-application apparatus may include controls that enable independent control of various parameters during operation. In various embodiments, profileable material forming the second marking is at least partially fused with the profileable material forming the first marking.
Abstract:
An embedment tile for producing a tactilely detectable surface in a pedestrian walkway. The tile includes a pattern of upwardly extending projections on its upper surface forming a tactilely detectable pattern, and the projections have reinforcing ridges to protect the projections from lateral forces such as those applied by snow plows.
Abstract:
A base unit for a road stud is provided. In one embodiment, the base unit is made of plastic and has a recess with a plurality of projections. The projections extend over the floor of the recess for retaining a resilient insert within the recess. The base unit comprises a first portion representing the body of the base unit, and one or more additional portions fitted to said first portion, for example by adhesive bonding. Each of said projections may be formed from one or more planar elements. The base unit further has a front portion, a back portion, and opposing side walls, wherein the recess is located between the front and back portion and the opposing side walls. The underside of the front and back portions is provided with ribbing for transverse strengthening. A cavity is formed in the underside of each of the opposing side walls. A colorant may be added to the plastic of the base unit in order to color the base unit, for example to match the color of reflectors provided in the insert. The top surface of the base unit may be provided with an anti-skid pattern.
Abstract:
A smart groove seal integrating a communication system within a groove seal used to seal expansion joints and grooves formed in pathways or roadways. One embodiment of the smart groove seal embeds one or more illumination sources that emits visible and/or infrared light into a clear elastomeric expansion joint seal. The communication system includes an expansion joint seal having a selectable array on one or more light sources (such as LEDs and/or OLEDs) positioned within the expansion joint seal, a power supply, and a controller. The smart groove seal enhances the lighting of lanes on vehicular and pedestrian roadways and/or provides vehicular or roadway information to vehicular operators.
Abstract:
A side guard for a roadway marker comprising an elongated rail member having a top and a bottom. A rooting pin extending from the bottom of the rail member. The rooting pin having a laterally open recess.
