    摘要: A fiber-reinforced sealing article disposed between an upper sand mold portion (cope) and lower sand mold portion (drag) to fill in, or correct irregularities in green sand molds. In casting metal shapes in a sand/binder mold, the cope and/or drag mold portions include sand compositions that are not perfectly planar surrounding the mold cavity, leaving one or more areas where the cope and drag are not in contact or otherwise provide a seal surrounding the mold cavity. The fiber-reinforced clay-containing article described herein is disposed between the cope and drag to seal the mold in one or more locations surrounding the mold cavity. The composition described herein is capable of shaping by hand, like modeling clay; and the article is preferably in the form of a continuous rope that is flexible, remains hydrated, and can be cut or broken to a desired length and disposed in area(s) where the cope and drag do not make good mating contact.

A wedge is located on the underside of the platform and is frictionally engageable with at least a portion of an inner edge of the top of the vessel. When the cap is placed in frictional engagement with the vessel, the contoured edge provides a restricted opening to the vessel for controlling the flow of the investment material. A lip is provided on the platform at the contoured edge for channeling investment material to the opening.

    摘要: An improved method of assembling molds enables the size of successive molds to be adjusted to provide cast articles having a desired size. In practicing the method, a first or initial mold is assembled in a fixture. This initial mold is used to form a cast article. The cast article formed in the initial mold is measured to determine the extent to which the dimensions of the article deviate from predetermined design dimensions. The fixture is then adjusted to compensate for the deviations in the dimensions of the cast article from the intended or design dimensions. A second mold is then assembled in the fixture. Since the fixture has been adjusted to compensate for the inaccuracies in the first mold, a product cast with the second mold will have dimensions closer to the desired dimensions.

    摘要: Moulding apparatus comprises a mould box support structure having spaced support members for receiving and supporting lug members formed at opposite ends of a mould box. In one form the support structure includes a circular table which is indexed so that a mould box is sequentially processed through several processing stations.

    摘要: An apparatus is provided for use in producing shell molds particularly suited to stack molding operations. In one embodiment, there is provided an electrically heated pressure plate which is arranged above the pattern frame so that it can be lowered by means of a pneumatic cylinder to compact and cure granular material treated with a bonding agent, such as resin coated sand, in the core box. In another embodiment in which the apparatus is used to make hollow shell molds, the heater plate above the core box is replaced by an electrically heated or gas heated hood. In this arrangement, the pattern frame is hinged so that it can be inverted to remove surplus sand from the pattern frame, after which the heated hood is lowered by means of a pneumatic cylinder to a position over the pattern frame to cure the back of the shell mold. The resulting cured sand molds are ready for immediate use in stack molding without further handling.
