    摘要: An inflator has a sealed vessel for containing compressed gas. The inflator has an axis. The vessel has a gas outlet passageway. The inflator has an elongated sealing cap closure with an internal chamber portion open to the compressed gas and sealed vessel to seal the opening of the gas outlet passageway. The elongated sealing cap is coaxial with the inflator. When a triggering device is activated it exerts a force against the elongated sealing cap closure in a direction substantially parallel to the axis of the inflator that causes the elongated sealing cap closure to fail and allows gas to escape from the vessel.

The pressurised gas is a mixture including at least one oxidisable gas and at least one oxidising gas. The inflator incorporates a mechanism (20) to open the gas bottle to enable gas to flow from the gas bottle to the interior of an air-bag (13). There is an initiating device (30) within the air-bag in the form of a spark generator which generates a spark across electrodes (31) to ignite the mixture of gas from the gas bottle.

    摘要: The present invention relates to a pressurized gas charging method of charging a gas into the interior of a gas generator which has a pressurized gas chamber having an outer shell formed by a pressurized gas chamber housing, a gas generating chamber having an outer shell formed by a gas generating chamber housing, being connected to an opening portion at one end of the pressurized gas chamber, a diffuser portion having a gas discharge port, being connected to an opening portion at the other end of the pressurized gas chamber, and no charging hole, for charging a pressurized gas, provided in the pressurized gas chamber housing before charging the pressurized gas, comprising: a first step of connecting one of the gas generating chamber housing and the diffuser portion to the opening portion at one end of the pressurized gas chamber housing, which has opening portions at both ends, thereby sealing the opening portion; a second step of disposing the gas generating chamber housing or the diffuser portion, that is not connected in the first step, in the vicinity of the opening portion at the other end of the pressurized gas chamber housing so as to form a gap serving as a gas charging hole; a third step of charging pressurized gas through the gap up to a predetermined pressure; and a fourth step of connecting the unconnected gas generating chamber housing or diffuser portion to the pressurized gas chamber housing to seal the gap.

The inflator includes an enclosure configured to receive and store the combustible gas under pressure. The enclosure has an outer wall comprising an exterior surface, an interior surface, and a fill aperture extending therethrough. The fill aperture has a first aperture portion and a second aperture portion. The first aperture portion is proximate the exterior surface and the second aperture portion is proximate the interior surface, wherein the first aperture portion is larger than the second aperture portion. The inflator further includes a sealing member configured to seal the fill aperture. The sealing member has a first portion and a second portion. The first portion is configured to sealingly engage a portion of the second aperture portion and the second portion is configured to sealingly engage a portion of the first aperture portion. The first portion seals the combustible gas within the enclosure and the second portion is configured to be welded to the enclosure by a welding process that would ignite the combustible gas if the combustible gas were exposed to the welding process.

A support element is located in the gas outlet aperture with a sealing element next to the side of the support element that faces the interior of the vessel. A locking element is disposed in a locking position between a side of the support element that faces away from the interior of the vessel and a first abutment that is rigid with respect to the vessel. The support element is further supported by a second abutment that is rigid with respect to the vessel. A gas releasing device moves the locking element from said locking position to open the gas outlet aperture.

    摘要: An airbag inflator assembly is disclosed that includes a container containing a charge of pressurized gas and having a peripheral surface surrounding an opening in the container. A burst disc member has one side capacitive discharge welded to the peripheral surface of the container to seal the opening and thus confine the pressurized gas within the container. An ignitor assembly includes an ignitor assembly housing and ignition elements constructed and arranged to generate sufficient force to break the seal formed by the burst disc member and release the pressurized gas from the container. The ignitor elements are disposed substantially within the ignitor assembly housing. The ignitor assembly housing is an integrally formed unitary construction capacitive discharge welded to a side of the burst disc member opposite to the one side. In a preferred embodiment, the welds are formed by (1) applying a force to urge i) the first side of the burst disc member into engagement with the peripheral surface of the container and ii) the peripheral surface of the ignitor assembly housing into engagement with the second side of the burst disc member. Also, pulses of electrical discharge are applied i) in a vicinity of the forceable engagement between the first side of the burst disc member and the peripheral surface of the container until welded to one another, and ii) in a vicinity of the forceable engagement between the peripheral surface of the ignitor assembly housing and the second side of the burst disc member until welded to one another.

The side surfaces (98,100) have contours which direct the fluid pressure to maintain the stress riser (96) under compressive stress and shear stress, rather than tensile stress, so as to resist creep throughout the time that the fluid is contained under pressure in the tank (12).
