摘要: Technologies are generally described for a membrane that may incorporate a graphene layer perforated by a plurality of nanoscale pores. The membrane may also include a gas sorbent that may be configured to contact a surface of the graphene layer. The gas sorbent may be configured to direct at least one gas adsorbed at the gas sorbent into the nanoscale pores. The nanoscale pores may have a diameter that selectively facilitates passage of a first gas compared to a second gas to separate the first gas from a fluid mixture of the two gases. The gas sorbent may increase the surface concentration of the first gas at the graphene layer. Such membranes may exhibit improved properties compared to conventional graphene and polymeric membranes for gas separations, e.g., greater selectivity, greater gas permeation rates, or the like.

摘要: The present invention discloses a new class of high flux mixed matrix membranes that are made by incorporating porous inorganic fillers (e.g. microporous and mesoporous molecular sieves, carbon molecular sieves, porous metal-organic frameworks) into a high flux high surface area microporous organic polymer matrix. These microporous organic polymers are referred to as “polymers of intrinsic microporosity” or PIMs. The high flux membranes are promising for a wide range of separations including liquid separations such as pervaporation of phenol/water and also gas separations in the petrochemical, refinery, and natural gas industries such as methane/carbon dioxide, olefin/paraffin and iso/normal paraffins separations.

摘要: A novel method of making an adsorptive membrane that incorporates super activated carbon particles in which the activated carbon particles that are incorporated within the membrane retain their highly adsorptive characteristics. In accordance with one form of the method of the invention, the multiplicity of small pores in the activated carbon particles are uniquely protected from becoming clogged during the process of forming the adsorptive membrane by initially wetting the particles with water prior to intermixing the particles with the hydrocarbon solvent solution of a polyurethane resin from which the membrane is formed.

摘要: An improved mixed matrix membrane for the separation of gases comprises polyethylene glycol, silicone rubber and activated carbon on a porous support. The membrane preferably also comprises a carbonate such as potassium carbonate. The gases which may be separated by the membrane include mixtures of oxygen and nitrogen and mixtures of carbon dioxide and nitrogen. Membranes of this design may be used in processing natural gas or other gases.

摘要: A device useful for separating the components of gas mixtures includes a selectively gas permeable mixed matrix membrane of a dispersed phase of chabazite type molecular sieve particles uniformly distributed throughout a continuous phase of a polymer. The membrane can be fabricated by dispersing the chabazite type molecular sieve particles in a solution of the polymer dissolved in a suitable solvent, and then forming the suspension into a membrane structure by conventional polymer membrane fabrication techniques. Mixed matrix membranes with chabazite type molecular sieves are well suited to separations of oxygen, carbon dioxide or helium from nitrogen or methane.

摘要: An adsorbent material intended particularly for use in extracorporeal haemodialysis, is described which is composed of granules of an adsorbent which are coated with a biocompatible polymeric membrane which is semipermeable to the solutes selected for removal. The polymer is a copolymer containing carboxyl and amino groups. In use, solutes pass selectively through the membrane and are trapped by adsorption in the adsorbent thereby preventing or at least reducing the reverse process. To improve biocompatibility the product may be further coated with a plasma protein.

摘要: A filter assembly for an enclosure, particularly for an ostomy bag, is described having an enclosure side, a first layer which is gas permeable, and an adsorbent layer comprising adsorbent particles dispersed in a fine fiber web. The enclosure side of the filter assembly includes an adhesive zone in which adhesive is present having an outer adhesive perimeter and a weld area surrounding at least a portion of the adhesive zone, where the filter assembly is heat-sealable to the enclosure at the weld area. A method of assembly is also described.
