Abstract: The present disclosure provides techniques that may be applied, for example, in a multi-slice network for maintaining privacy when attempting to access the network. An exemplary method generally includes transmitting a registration request message to a serving network to register with the serving network; receiving a first confirmation message indicating a secure connection with the serving network has been established; transmitting, after receiving the first confirmation message, a secure message to the serving network comprising an indication of at least one configured network slice that the UE wants to communicate over, wherein the at least one configured network slice is associated with a privacy flag that is set; and receiving a second confirmation message from the serving network indicating that the UE is permitted to communicate over the at least one configured network slice.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A first base station may identify that the first base station is a secondary node for a user equipment (UE) operating in a dual connectivity deployment, where the UE is in a radio resource control (RRC) inactive state. The first base station may receive, from the UE, a request to resume communications with the first base station and a second base station that is a master node in the dual connectivity deployment. The first base station may verify the UE using an access stratum context associated with the UE, and resume communications with the UE based at least in part on the request and the access stratum context. The first base station may resume communications as a secondary node or as a master node. In some cases, the UE may resume communications without entering an RRC idle state.

In one aspect, a method for wireless communication by a network entity, includes: receiving, from a user equipment, a request to connect to a network, the request comprising a user equipment identifier and a reduced capability indication; determining a validity of the reduced capability indication based on at least one of: subscription data associated with the user equipment; or one or more capabilities associated with the user equipment; and making a connection decision based on the validity of the reduced capability indication.

Abstract: A user equipment (UE) may receive a quality of service (QoS) flow for a multicast or broadcast service that is secured with a multicast-broadcast key. The UE may transmit a data session establishment request to a service management function (SMF) for the multicast or broadcast service. The UE may receive at least one multicast-broadcast key for the PDU session. The UE may determine a radio bearer (RB) configuration for the multicast or broadcast service. The UE may receive one or more QoS flow packets for the multicast or broadcast service over the RB. The UE may decode the one or more QoS flow packets using the at least one multicast-broadcast key, or a key derived from the at least one multicast-broadcast key. Decoding may include decrypting, verifying the integrity, or a combination thereof.

Battery life and network efficiency of the user equipment are improved through the usage of a polled-mode power saving technique, wherein the user equipment periodically awakens to poll the 5G core network device regarding whether a communication is available for the user equipment. If the communication is available, the user equipment receives the communication. If the communication is delayed, the user equipment performs discontinuous reception to save power until the communication is available. If the communication is unavailable, the user equipment resumes a sleep mode.
