Abstract:
A microfluidic separation device suitable for high throughput applications such as medical treatments, and associated methods and systems, are described. Embodiments are suitable for treatment of end stage renal disease.
Abstract:
A bandage has a first sheet overlying a wound and located adjacent to it and a top sheet overlying the first sheet. The first sheet has a plurality of discrete passageways overlying the wound and adapted to communicate negative pressure established by a negative pressure source to the wound.
Abstract:
A system for detection of linear underground anomalies passing under surface roads comprises an electromagnetic (EM) gradiometer mounted on a vehicle trailer. A transmitter is mounted to the front bumper of a car or vehicle towing the trailer and provides carrier synchronization information to the EM-gradiometer. An opportunistic radio station can be used as an illuminator. The transmitter or ground wave from an opportunistic radio station directs radio waves down into the ground where objects like linear underground anomalies and their equipment will produce reflections and scattered waves. These reflections will have phase angles and magnitudes that can be interpreted for characterizing information about the linear underground anomalies. Each EM-gradiometer measurement is tagged with GPS location information and then stored in a database. Subsequent passes over the same roadways and tracks are compared (change detection) to the earlier stored data. New linear underground anomalies and features become very obvious in these comparisons.
Abstract:
The invention relates to production of proinsulin or insulin in seeds of monocot plants by transformation of monocot plants with a nucleotide sequence encoding proinsulin or insulin under the control of a seed specific promoter.
Abstract:
A curing device for curing an ink, varnish, adhesive, and/or adhesive with a lamination film on a web includes a curing housing and a control system. The curing housing includes a xenon light source and an outlet for light emitted by the light source. The control system is configured to calculate a dosage of light applied to the ink, varnish, adhesive, and/or adhesive with a lamination film. The control system is also configured to adjust or maintain the dosage of light applied to the ink, varnish, adhesive, and/or adhesive with a lamination film based on the calculated dosage of light.

A curing device for curing an ink, varnish, adhesive, and/or adhesive with a lamination film on a web includes a curing housing and a control system. The curing housing includes a light or electron source and an outlet for light or electrons emitted by the light or electron source. The control system is configured to calculate a dosage of light or energy applied to the ink, varnish, adhesive, and/or adhesive with a lamination film. The control system is also configured to adjust or maintain the dosage of light or energy applied to the ink, varnish, adhesive, and/or adhesive with a lamination film based on the calculated dosage of light or energy.
Abstract:
An apparatus, method, in-line press, and cassette for conditioning a substrate for subsequent processing, the apparatus comprising: an ultrasonic energy device with an ultrasonic horn having a contact surface; a rotatable cylinder having a raised profile with a linear or curvilinear pattern, the rotatable cylinder disposed adjacent the horn, but on an opposite side from the substrate; wherein the substrate is squeezed between the contact surface of the ultrasonic horn and the pattern on the rotatable cylinder to thereby apply heat and pressure during operation of the ultrasonic energy device to create a linear or curvilinear indentation in a surface of the substrate.
Abstract:
This invention is in the field of medical devices. Specifically, the present invention provides portable medical devices that allow real-time detection of analytes from a biological fluid. The methods and devices are particularly useful for providing point-of-care testing for a variety of medical applications.
Abstract:
A slickline data transmission system for a high pressure oil-field well comprises inductive couplers at opposite ends of a slickline in order to establish real-time radio communication between down-the-hole logging toolstrings and supervisory control and data acquisition equipment on the surface. A frequency shift keyed (FSK) carrier centered around radio is used to send data up to the surface and commands back down to the toolstring. The toolstring itself can be a conventional one with a TDMA interface originally intended to be memory-dumped when the toolstring is returned to the surface.
Abstract:
Expression of a recombinant manganese-dependent peroxidase in plants is described. Methods for the recovery of transgenic corn seeds that express high levels of functional manganese-dependent peroxidase are also provided. Manganese-dependent peroxidase vectors are engineered to contain sequences directing seed-preferred expression as well as sequences for cell wall-targeted localization.
