A bicycle wheel basically has a hub, a plurality of spoke nipples, a plurality of spokes extending outwardly from the hub and an annular rim coupled to the outer ends of the spokes for supporting a tire. The annular rim has a pair of spoke attachment portions with a plurality of openings for retaining outer ends of spokes therein. The outer ends of the spokes have bent sections located within the spoke holes of the rim and enlarged head members arranged to engage the spoke attachment portions. The hub has a pair of tubular mounting portions. Each tubular mounting portion has a plurality of mounting projections and a plurality of spoke attachment openings. The inner ends of the spokes are received in the spoke attachment openings from one side along with the spoke nipples from an opposite side. The inner ends of the spokes are threadedly coupled to the spoke nipples. Each of the spoke nipples has a head portion with a hexagonal bore and a shaft portion with an axial bore having internal threads. The head portion has a larger width than a maximum width of the shaft portion so that the head portion can engage a tubular mounting portion. The hexagonal bores in the spoke nipples make it possible to engage the hexagonal bores with a ball-hexagonal wrench at an angle to the spoke nipples in a limited space.

A device for generating a clock signal includes: a timer unit for generating a period signal that indicates a period defined on the basis of a reference clock and a period control signal; an output unit for reversing an output level thereof in response to the period signal generated by the timer unit and providing a resultant output as a clock signal; and a control unit for producing the period control signal according to the clock signal output from the output unit and controlling the timing of generation of the period signal for the timer unit. A cycle of the clock signal output from the output unit is controlled using the period control signal, so that the cycle corresponds to an odd number of pulse spacings of the reference clock. Owing to this configuration, a deviation of an actual output frequency from a desired output frequency relative to an identical input clock can be minimized, and thus a high-precision output clock can be provided.

Prior to a periphery exposing operation, a light emitting unit and a light receiving unit are retracted to a position separate from a wafer, and a calibrating operation is conducted in the retracted position utilizing a light shield plate different from the wafer to be exposed, thereby obtaining a servo control reference signal for the exposure. At the exposure of the periphery portion of the wafer, the exposure width is controlled according to the reference signal. It is therefore rendered possible to achieve exact peripheral exposure, including the intensity and intensity distribution of the exposing light beam immediately before the irradiation of the peripheral portion of the wafer.

The method involves treating a cellulose fiber-containing structure with an alkaline agent, coating the structure with an acid chloride having the following formula: ##STR1## (wherein X is --H, --NO.sub.2, --CH.sub.3 or --SO.sub.2 Cl) and subjecting the resultant structure to heat treatment to cause chemical modification. The acid chloride is employed in the form of an emulsion in water. The emulsion may also contain a thickener such as a natural sizing agent or a dye. The method provides a more dyeable cellulose fiber-containing structure.
