Abstract:
Polysiloxane-based materials, which include metal species, are provided. The polysiloxane-based compositions and materials generally include (i) amino-functional polysiloxane material and (ii) a plurality of metal species distributed within the polymeric material. Polymer based compositions in which the amino-functional polysiloxane material includes quaternary ammonium groups, e.g., tetraalkyl ammonium groups, are examples of suitable materials which may be used to form the present compositions. The metal species, which may be in an oxidized and/or neutral state, may be bonded, coordinated, chelated, suspended, and/or dispersed within the polymeric material.
Abstract:
Amphiphilic copolymers formed from plant oil-derived vinyl ether monomers and polyethylene glycol alkyl vinyl ethers are provided. Nanoparticles coated with these amphiphilic polymers are well-suited for water remediation applications.
Abstract:
Provided are antimicrobial compositions including at least one biocide covalently bound to a polyurethane. The biocide moiety may comprise triclosan, a triclosan derivative, or a quaternary ammonium salt. Further provided are methods of reducing biofilm formation or microbial growth on a surface, the method including applying to the surface an antimicrobial composition including at least one biocide covalently attached to a polyurethane.
Abstract:
Polyamine cross-linked polysiloxanes, such as functionalized polysiloxane cross-linked with a polyalkylenepolyamine are described herein. The polyamine cross-linked polysiloxanes may be used in an antifouling composition to prevent biological fouling in marine environments.
Abstract:
A polymer that is a polysiloxane polymer has Levofloxacin groups, or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, attached via linkers. The linkers may be hydrolytically labile thereby providing a manner of releasing the Levofloxacin from the polymer.
Abstract:
Curable formulations comprising: (a) at least one multifunctional acrylate having a functionality of at least two, (b) at least one mono-acrylate monomer, (c) at least one heteroatom-containing diacrylate, wherein the heteroatom is sulfur or selenium; and (d) a curing agent, have been discovered. The curable formulations show promise as precursors to high refractive index materials suitable for use in light management devices and other optical devices. In addition the novel curable formulations are useful for producing coatings, which may be useful in forming display films, in particular brightness enhancing display films.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a method of preparing treated metal oxide nanoparticles from sols prepared from metal alkoxides and organosilanes. The treated nanoparticles are useful high refractive index additives in the manufacture of optical articles.
Abstract:
A device and method for the high throughput screening of the abrasion resistance of coatings. The device includes a plurality of transducers, each of the plurality of transducers having at least one external surface, and a plurality of coatings, each of the plurality of coatings deposited onto the external surface(s) of one of the plurality of transducers. The device also includes a plurality of oscillation sources, coupled to the plurality of transducers, for generating and applying an oscillation potential to each of the plurality of transducers. Further, the device includes a plurality of oscillation detectors, coupled to the plurality of transducers, for measuring the oscillation frequency and a variation in oscillation frequency associated with abrasion resistance in each of the plurality of transducers. The method includes exposing each of the plurality of coatings to an abrasive material, the abrasive material causing a change in mass and/or viscoelastic property in each of the plurality of coatings. Further, the method includes detecting and measuring the oscillation parameters and a variation in oscillation parameters in each of the plurality of transducers, wherein the variation in oscillation parameters corresponds to the change in mass in each of the plurality of coatings.
Abstract:
A thermoplastic composition comprising a poly(arylene ether), a polyamide, a compatibilizing agent, and a polyester ionomer exhibits reduced moisture absorption and improved paint adhesion. Use of the polyester ionomer allows use of lower amounts of conductive fillers.
Abstract:
Polyamides, and methods of making and using polyamides, that have a difference between melting temperature (Tm) and crystallization temperature (Tc) of at most 20° C. are disclosed herein. Such polyamides can exhibit exceptionally fast crystallization kinetics making them suitable for use as engineering thermoplastics in melt processing methods such as injection molding. Particularly useful polyamides include 1,9-nonamethylene adipamide-co-1,9-nonamethylene terephthalamide copolymers.
