摘要： A pollution control device has a metal housing, a solid pollution control device disposed within the metal housing, and a mounting mat disposed between the pollution control element and the housing for positioning the pollution control element and for absorbing mechanical and thermal shock. The mounting mat includes a layer of intumescent material having at least one insert formed of a resilient, flexible, fibrous non-intumescent material. The insert is positioned along at least a portion of at least one lateral edge of the mounting mat to prevent erosion of the intumescent material and to provide a seal between the pollution control element and the housing.

摘要： An efficient, light-weight airbag inflation filter includes a gas-permeable, substantially rigid support tube having a plurality of uniform perforations therethrough. A filtering element formed from a continuous inorganic ceramic yarn or roving is helically cross-wound around the support tube to form one or more layers covering the perforations of the support tube. A wire screen, having openings therethrough smaller than the perforations in the support tube, is disposed between the filtering element and the support tube to act as a gas diffusion layer for the gases passing through the inflation filter.

摘要： An efficient, economical, compact diesel particulate filter comprising a casing with a plurality of concentric, spaced, perforated, supported, substantially rigid tubes substantially filling the casing radially, wherein the perforated surface of each tube is covered by a filtering element comprising substantially helically wound inorganic yarn, wherein each space between tubes is blocked at only one end of the tubes so that exhaust entering an unblocked space at one end of the casing passes radially inwardly and outwardly through filtering elements before exiting through an unblocked space at the other end of the casing.

摘要： Catalytic converters for automotive exhaust systems wherein thin, resilient, flexible, intumescent sheet materials are utilized as mounting mats for catalytic monoliths are disclosed. Multiple wraps of such sheet materials have been found particularly useful and cost effective for positioning and supporting ceramic catalytic monoliths which have a large cross-sectional dimensional tolerance within the metallic casing of the converter.

摘要： Intumescent fire protective sheaths useful for the protection of electric cables and conduits from open flame damage and methods for making such sheaths. The sheath comprises sheets of substantially inorganic intumescent material capable of arrangement around the cable or the conduit to form a protective layer. The layer is restrained to expand only in the general direction of the electrical cables or conduits upon exposure to open flames. In the unexpanded state, the sheaths dissipate cable-generated heat due to their higher value of thermal conductivity, their relative thinness and their fin-like shape.
