The light polarized by means of a rear polarization filter (9) is reflected at a rear, reflective element (10) and deflected into the liquid crystal cell (1). The segmented display is therefore produced on a front side (14) of the liquid crystal display (1), provided with a front polarization filter (13). By contrast with known liquid crystal displays having a transflector, it is thereby possible substantially to reduce a possible color deviation and the limited readability associated therewith.
