In the receiver, a detector detects the estimated symbol and the noise variance. Further, a soft metric calculation unit computes the distance between the estimated symbol and the constellation point, and then divides the distance by the noise variance to determine the soft bit metrics.

    摘要: In some embodiments a beamforming method is disclosed. The method can include transmitting a beam having a channel defined by a maximum ration transmission vector (MRT) and receiving a first response from a receiver, where the first response has first information such as parameters related to the transmitted beam. Using the parameters and the initial MRT another directional transmission can be made. A similar process can determine a maximum combining ratio for a receiver. Set up communications between the transmitter and the receiver can be reduced by omitting data from transmission that can be acquired by other means such as from memory or calculations. Additional embodiments are also disclosed.

    摘要: In a wireless communications network, a wireless device may examine the received signal to determine the strength of the received signal, and also determine the level of interference and noise. If a retransmission is needed due to a message being incorrectly received, these factors may then be processed to estimate whether the probable cause of poor reception is interference from a neighboring network. If such interference is the likely cause, the retransmission may be changed to a different time and/or to different frequencies in a subsequent frame, so that the interference from the neighboring network is less likely to reoccur.

    摘要: A method and system is provided that selects transmission modes between spatial multiplexing, delay diversity and space-time coding in 802.11n systems. As such, eigen-value computation for mode selection is not required. This provides efficiency, in particular for basic receiver structure where a linear MMSE or ZF MIMO detector is applied. Further, mode selection using a simple metric provides accurate mode selection. In addition by switching between different transmission modes, a link adaptation algorithm according to the present invention provides improved system performance.

    摘要: A telecommunication MIMO receiver implements soft bit metric calculation with direct matrix inversion MIMO detection. The receiver has a detector that detects data symbols in a received signal by determining distances between received signal points and constellation points; a scaler that scales the distances using a scaling factor; and a soft bit metric calculator that uses the scaled distances to calculate scaled soft bit metrics. The receiver can also have a decoder that decodes the soft bit metrics to determine data values in the received signals. Preferably, the receiver also has a quantizer that dynamically quantizes the soft bit metrics before decoding by the decoder.
