Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described to support using one of multiple types of synchronization signal blocks (SSBs) to perform one or more management procedures. A base station may configure and transmit one or more SSBs of second type that are smaller than SSBs of a first type. For instance, SSBs of a second type may include a first subset of signals and may exclude a second subset of the signals that are included in an SSB of the first type. An SSB of the second type may be transmitted in an active bandwidth region used for communications between a user equipment (UE) and the base station. The UE may receive an SSB of the second type in an active bandwidth region, may perform one or more measurements using the SSB of the second type, and may perform one or more management procedures.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may communicate with a network entity using one or more directional beams. The UE may detect a beam failure associated with at least one of the one or more directional beams, and the UE may calculate a duration between a detected beam failure and a subsequent random access occasion. The UE may transmit a beam failure recovery (BFR) message indicating the detected beam failure to the network entity or to a second UE based on whether the calculated duration satisfies a threshold duration. For example, the UE may transmit the BFR message to the second UE when the calculated duration is greater than or equal to the threshold duration. Alternatively, the UE may transmit the BFR message to the network entity when the calculated duration is less than the threshold duration.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. For example, the described techniques provide for performing and reporting suitable measurements, at a first user equipment (UE), on reference signals from relay UEs to determine which relay UEs to activate or deactivate for relaying communications for the first UE. The first UE may be configured to perform measurements on deactivated relay UEs, and the first UE may report these measurements (or other measurements) when one or more events are triggered. The events may depend on the measurements performed on the deactivated relay UEs. Once the events are triggered, the first UE may report the measurements, and a second UE or a network entity may use the measurements to efficiently determine which relay UEs to activate or deactivate for relaying communications for the first UE.

Abstract: A method of wireless communication by a first sidelink user equipment (UE) transmits a sidelink (SL) beam failure recovery (BFR) message to a communications node, indicating a new candidate beam and an identifier (ID) of a second sidelink UE. The method also receives an acknowledgment of the SL BFR message. A communications node receives a sidelink beam failure recovery message from a first sidelink user equipment, indicating a new candidate beam and an ID of a second sidelink UE. The method also transmits information identifying the new candidate beam and the ID to the second sidelink UE. Another method by a first sidelink user equipment receives a sidelink beam failure recovery message from a base station, indicating a new candidate beam and an ID of a second sidelink UE. The method changes a beam used to communicate with the second sidelink UE in response to receiving the BFR message.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for enabling transitions between half-duplex and full-duplex modes in wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may transmit to a base station a first indication of a switching latency for transitioning between a half-duplex mode and a full-duplex mode. The UE may receive, from the base station in accordance with the first indication of the switching latency, a second indication that the UE is to transition to one of the half-duplex mode or the full-duplex mode. Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described in which a base station and a user equipment (UE) may perform beam refinement within a random access procedure. A UE may transmit a random access request to the base station and, in response thereto, the base station may transmit a control channel order to the UE that indicates to transmit a modified random access request. Resources for the modified random access request may be determined based on the random access request, the control channel order, configured resources, or combinations thereof. The base station may monitor for the modified random access request using different beamforming parameters and determine a refined beam for a subsequent transmission in the random access procedure. The base station may use the refined beam to transmit a random access response to the UE, and complete the access procedure.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. Techniques are described for providing additional feedback about a channel as part of a feedback procedure. Feedback information associated with a feedback procedure may include two stages of feedback information. Each stage of feedback information may include a different type of information. A first stage may include acknowledgements or negative acknowledgements for each feedback process supported. A second stage may include additional feedback information related to any downlink transmission that was not received successfully and thus included a negative acknowledgement in the first stage. Additionally, or alternatively, the second stage may include additional feedback information related to any downlink transmission that was received successfully and thus included an acknowledgement in the first stage. Techniques are also described for handling the variable size of the feedback information included in the two stages.
