    摘要: An ignition system for an internal combustion engine includes an igniter having at least two high voltage (HV) electrodes and a low voltage (LV) electrode. The at least two HV electrodes are electrically isolated one from the other and the at least two HV electrodes are electrically isolated from the LV electrode. The system includes a coil assembly having at least one primary winding and at least two secondary windings, each secondary winding having a terminal for providing a HV signal. A driver module is provided for energizing the coil assembly. A high-tension cable, comprising at least two resistive wires, connects the at least two HV electrodes to the terminals of respective ones of the at least two secondary windings. The high-tension cable further comprises a non-resistive wire connecting the LV electrode to the driver module.

    摘要: An ignition apparatus for an internal combustion engine, comprising at least one ignition plug, an actuating circuit provided with first and second coil pairs corresponding to one ignition plug for generating spark discharge in the at least one ignition plug. First and second ignition signals respectively supplied to the first and second coil pair are generated so that a first discharge period and a second discharge period partially overlap with each other during an overlap discharge period, the overlap discharge period is made equal to a set overlap period, and a start timing of the first discharge period is prior to a start timing of the second discharge period. The first and second discharge periods are time periods of electric discharges generated by the first and second coil pairs. The set overlap period is set according to the first discharge period, a temporary cut threshold value, and a discharge start current value at the start timing of the first discharge period. The temporary cut threshold value is a minimum value of the discharge current value at which no temporary cut of the discharge current in the ignition plug occurs.

The multi-spark type ignition system includes a energy storage coil, an energy storage capacitor, a first power transistor that switches on or off supply of electric energy from a battery and the electric energy from the energy storage coil to the energy storage capacitor, a second power transistor connected to the energy storage capacitor and to an ignition coil and an external resistor, connected between the energy storage coil and the first power transistor so as to bypass the energy storage capacitor. The second power transistor switches on or off the primary current. The external resistor limits current flowing through the first power transistor, thereby limiting temperature rise of the first power transistor.

    摘要: The invention relates to a system for igniting a fuel-air mixture in a combustion chamber with a corona discharge. The system comprises an electrode inside of the combustion chamber, an electric circuit which provides radio frequency electric power to the electrode, and a ground formed by the combustion chamber walls. A radio frequency voltage differential formed between the electrode and the ground produces a radio frequency electric field therebetween which causes a fuel-air mixture to ionize resulting in combustion of the fuel-air mixture. The system can be utilized in engines such as internal combustion engines or gas turbine engines, for example.

    摘要: A direct cylinder injected engine in several different embodiments which are specifically illustrated as two-cycle engines but which can also be used in four-cycle engines. The fuel injector is positioned so as to minimize escape of fuel from the exhaust port in the two-cycle engine applications. In addition, multiple or extended spark plug firing is accomplished under difficult running conditions and wherein fuel vaporization may be incomplete. This will ensure complete combustion. Various control routines and strategies are disclosed that control the number or time of injection depending upon such factors as engine speed, load, speed variation, air fuel ratio variations and pressure variations.

    摘要: An ion current in the combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine is measured by using the spark plug as an ion current sensor. The ignition circuit arrangement has an ignition coil or transformer with a primary winding forming a primary circuit and a secondary winding forming a secondary circuit in which the spark plug is connected. A measuring voltage is applied to the secondary circuit by circuit components forming a measuring circuit for measuring the ion current. The measuring circuit provides a measuring voltage at a value that is lower than the battery voltage of the ignition system or corresponds to the battery voltage at most. A rectifying element is connected to the secondary circuit which feeds the secondary or ignition current into the battery circuit of the ignition system while an ion current caused to flow by the measuring voltage applied to the secondary circuit is measured between sparking times when no ignition current is flowing.
