A multiple layer sheet material comprising a first layer 12 of vinylidene chloride copolymer having a first softening temperature. A second polymeric sealant layer 14 has a second softening temperature no more than about 50.degree. C. less than the first softening temperature. An optional third layer 16 between the first and second layers has a third softening temperature greater than either of the first and second softening temperatures and comprises a polyethylene terephthalate composition. A fourth polymeric layer 18 has a fourth softening temperature greater than the first and second softening temperatures. The first layer is positioned between the third and fourth layers. A fifth impact layer 20 is positioned between layers 14 and 16. The composition of the impact layer 20 comprises, as a first component, a base polymer drawn from the same family of polymers as a major polymeric component of the second sealant layer, and, as a second component, a polymeric composition providing elastomeric properties to the impact layer and increased shock tolerance to the multiple layer sheet material. The disclosure also teaches the use of the sheet materials in fabrication of packages and teaches methods of fabricating both the sheet materials and the packages.

The blends are processable temperatures lower than either component they are prepared from.

An aqueous conductivizing composition for conductivizing paper or other sheet material, for example for producing a conductive base for use in dielectric paper or other electrostatic imaging material, is produced by (a) removing sodium magnesium trifluoride impurity (neighborite) from a synthetic hectorite clay conductivizing agent, and (b) adding a binder. These measures reduce dust formation experienced in production or use of electrostatic imaging material incorporating a base which has been conductivized with a synthetic hectorite clay conductivising agent.

Disclosed is a multicomponent resin composition which is essentially a blend of three polymers, each of which may be a copolymer, and undergoes a change in light transmittance and color with temperature. The first and second polymers are chosen in combination such that a blend thereof exhibits a phase diagram in which a lower critical solution temperature appears, and the third polymer is one which has mutual solubility, at least partially, with either or both of the first and second polymers. For example, polymethyl methacrylate and a copolymer of vinylidene fluoride and hexafluoroacetone, as the first and second polymers, and polyvinyl acetate are blended together. The phase separation temperature or coloring temperature of the multicomponent resin composition depends on the amount of the third polymer, and opacifying and coloring of the resin composition caused by heating become irreversible by cooling when the amount of the third polymer is sufficient. The multicomponent resin composition is useful as a thermal-mode information storage material and also as a light shield material.

The vinylidene chloride interpolymer is present in an amount of from about 1 to about 80 weight percent based on total polymeric blend composition weight. The thermoplastic copolyester resin is present in an amount of from 20 to about 99 weight percent based on total polymeric blend composition weight. The blends exhibit physical properties superior to those expected by the rule of mixtures.

The invention relates to an adhesive composition which is suitable for use on a shaped part of polyester, in particular a polyester film, and comprises a copolyester, optionally in combination with light-sensitive substances, fillers and pigments, whereby the copolyester additionally contains at least one copolymer of vinylidene chloride, preferably in a weight ratio of about 3:1 to 1:1. The adhesive composition can furthermore contain cellulose acyl esters, such as low molecular-weight cellulose acetobutyrate or cellulose propionate. Polybasic oxycarboxylic acids and levelling agents can also be present. The adhesive composition can be employed in mixtures with, for example, light-sensitive lacquer systems.

Fast curing resin coating compositions for coating metal surfaces and a one-step method are described. The coatings comprise a high molecular weight epoxy resin, although a portion thereof may be low molecular weight, an effective amount of a cross-linking agent for the epoxy resin, a polysiloxane resin system, an effective amount of a curing agent for the polysiloxane fluid system, a fluorocarbon polymer, and the balance being suitable solvents. The coatings are applied in one-step and dry in less than one minute and may be formed into various shapes and forms useful for stovetop cookware.
