    摘要: A process of producing a nonaqueous resin dispersion, particularly useful for a liquid developer in electrostatic photographic, which comprises subjecting to photopolymerization a system containing at least a monomer (A) having one polymerizable double bond, which is soluble in a nonaqueous solvent but becomes insoluble upon polymerization thereof, and at least a dispersion stabilizing resin (P) which is a polymer having a weight average molecular weight of from 1.times.10.sup.4 to 1.times.10.sup.6 and containing a specific repeating unit represented by formula (I) in an amount of at least 50% by weight based on the weight of the polymer and has a specific functional group represented by formula (II) bonded to the side chain of the polymer and/or only one terminal of the main chain of the polymer, the photopolymerization reaction being carried out in the nonaqueous solvent by irradiating the system with ultraviolet rays having a wavelength of not longer than 400 n.m.: ##STR1##

    摘要: A process of polymerizing a polymerizable material in an inert organic liquid medium, in which the polymer formed from the monomer or monomers is insoluble, comprising dispersing the polymerizable material in the organic liquid in the presence of a finely, divided particulate material comprising an inorganic portion insoluble in the organic liquid medium and in combination therewith, preferably by covalent or ionic bonding, hydrocarbon chains containing at least 8 carbon atoms, the hydrocarbon chains being soluble in the organic liquid medium and heating the mixture to polymerize the polymerizable material to a required degree of polymerization. The process provides a means of stabilizing dispersion polymerizations which need to be carried out at very high temperatures to effect the polymerization.

    摘要: For packaging purposes, metallized multilayer films containing a biaxially oriented polypropylene film as a base layer should have high scratch resistance, good heat-sealing properties, such as low heat-sealing temperature, attractive visual properties, such as high metallic luster, excellent metallizability of the base layer or of a covering layer, and also good processing properties during metallization, printing, slitting, and during processing on fast-running packaging machines. This requirement profile is fulfilled by a multilayer film of asymmetric structure containing a biaxially oriented base layer 4 composed of polypropylene, a heat-sealing layer 3 which contains an additive combination composed of pigment in platelet form and siloxane and which is optionally modified by an addition of polypropylene and a hydrocarbon resin, and of a corona-treated polypropylene covering layer 2 which is not capable of being heat-sealed. A corona-treated, heat-sealable copolymer may also be used as the covering layer 2, instead of a covering layer 2 composed of non-heat-sealable polypropylene. The covering layer 2 can also be omitted; in that case the surface of the base layer 4 is metallized. Tubular bags, jackets, containers of various shape for packaging foodstuffs, including the vacuum packaging of foodstuffs, are manufactured from this multilayer film.

    摘要: A high solids, stable, nonaqueous dispersion, comprising a low Tg copolymer, having a Tg between about -10.degree. C. and about 30.degree. C., particularly adapted for use as a clear coat automotive finish. The copolymer is the copolymerization product of monomers whose Tg is above about 50.degree. C., polar monomers whose Tg is up to about 15.degree. C. and .alpha., .beta. ethylenically unsaturated stabilizer copolymers. The stabilizer copolymers are formed from .alpha., .beta. ethylenically unsaturated monomers and at least one oxirane containing compound and have a molecular weight of about 2,000 to about 25,000, are soluble in aliphatic solvents and have a Tg of about -60.degree. C. to about 0.degree. C. These nonaqueous dispersions result in coatings having high % solids, ease of application, minimal sagging and good gloss and DOI. They are preferably made by copolymerizing ethylenically unsaturated monomers with about 0.5% to about 4% acid functional chain transfer agents and reacting the thus formed copolymer with about 1% to about 4% oxirane containing .alpha., .beta. ethylenically unsaturated monomers to modify the copolymer resulting in a stabilizer copolymer. The nonaqueous dispersion is made by a free radical copolymerization of the monomers whose Tg is above about 50.degree. C., polar monomers whose Tg is up to about 15.degree. C., and the stabilizer copolymers in a nonpolar solvent at reflux temperatures.

    摘要: Inherently tacky infusible pressure-sensitive adhesive microspheres are prepared by polymerizing at least one monomer which when polymerized will form a pressure-sensitive adhesive having a glass transition temperature less than abotu -20.degree. C. in an organic medium in which the monomer is substantially insoluble and in the presence of a surfactant and a suspension stabilizer which are soluble in the organic medium and substantially insoluble in the monomer under conditions of shear sufficient to form suspended particles of a size less than 200 microns. A monomer soluble initiator is preferably employed. The preferred media are ethylene glycol and glycerol and the preferred monomers are 2-ethyl hexyl acrylate and methacrylic acid.

    摘要: A process for the production of a nonaqueous stable emulsion feedstock comprising a rubber, a block copolymer having at least one component miscible with the rubber and at least one component miscible with the monomer, and at least two unsaturated organic monomers capable of free radical polymerization is disclosed. At least one of the monomers must be miscible with the rubber and the mixture of the monomers is substantially a nonsolvent for the rubber. The block copolymer maintains the rubber or rubber-rich particles in emulsified form within the mixture of monomers. In general, the process comprises (1) mixing the rubber, block copolymer and at least a portion of the rubber miscible monomers to form a first nonaqueous solution, (2) mixing the remaining monomers and the remaining portion of the rubber miscible monomers to form a second solution, and (3) combining the two solutions to form the nonaqueous stable emulsion feedstock. A process for polymerizing this feedstock material and the polymerization product produced thereby is also disclosed.

    摘要: A specialized polymeric peroxide is copolymerized with vinyl type monomers in the presence of organic liquid, thereby obtaining a solution of a copolymer having peroxy bonds therein.This solution is admixed with vinyl type monomers which are different in composition from the ones used in the first copolymerization, and the resultant mixture is subjected to block copolymerization.The obtained block copolymer solution is admixed with an organic liquid which exert solubility to one of polymers of the vinyl type monomers which are employed in the first or second copolymerization, whereby a non aqueous system liquid dispersion is obtained.This dispersion contains a block copolymer in a high concentration and it also is splendid in uniformity of dispersion and dispersion stability.
