    摘要: A chill mold is used to cool molten material to form a casting. A support holds the chill mold so that a bottom of the chill mold is elevated. A baffle is arranged to divert a generally horizontal flow of cooling air upwardly to impinge the bottom of the chill mold. A plurality of chill molds may be aligned generally in a row, and at least one fan may be arranged at an end of the row to direct the flow of cooling air underneath the chill molds. The size and the vertical position of the baffles may be varied along the row, so as to generally equalize convective cooling rates among the chill molds in the row.

    摘要: The invention describes a method of casting a metal comprising the following steps: fabricating a pattern from polystyrene foam, coating the pattern with a ceramic slurry, filling sand around the pattern to create a sand mold, placing the sand mold in an open pressure vessel, filling the sand mold with a molten metal, immediately thereafter closing and pressure sealing the pressure vessel, pressurizing the sealed pressure vessel with an inert gas for a predetermined measured time, depressurizing the sealed pressure vessel, opening the pressure vessel and removing the metal filled sand mold, and extracting the desired object from the mold.

    摘要: A method of catching overflow of a liquid fluid utilized to cast a component is disclosed. Sand is compacted to form a mold. A cutter of a cutting device is in a disengaged position spaced from a top surface of the mold when the cutting device is in a first position and the cutter is in an engaged position engaging the top surface of the mold when the cutting device is in a second position. The cutter is actuated when the cutting device is in the second position and the cutter is in the engaged position to remove sand from the top surface to define a recess therein to catch overflow of the liquid fluid. The recess is spaced from an opening. At least one blocking mechanism, blowing mechanism and adjustment mechanism is utilized to assist the cutting device.

    摘要: An apparatus for dispersing particles within a molten material in a mold-less casting process comprises a primary electromagnet for generating an AC magnetic field and a secondary electromagnet adjacent to the primary electromagnet for generating an independent DC magnetic field. Each of the primary and secondary electromagnets comprises a coil and at least one of the electromagnets is positioned about a common longitudinal axis. A heat source may be positioned at a first end of the common longitudinal axis for forming a melt to be exposed to the AC and DC magnetic fields, and a particle injection device is positioned at one or more positions about the common longitudinal axis for injecting particles into the melt during magnetic field exposure. The apparatus does not include a solid body for containing the melt prior to solidification.
