Abstract: A liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate, a first alignment film disposed on the first substrate, a second substrate, and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first alignment film and the second substrate. The first substrate has a surface curved in a first direction and the second substrate has a surface curved in the first direction. The first alignment film includes a polymerization initiator and a polymer chain that is a copolymer of a dianhydride-based compound and a diamine-based compound. The polymer chain includes a main chain including a repeating unit including an imide group, a first side chain, including a vertical align group, bonded to the main chain, and a second side chain bonded to the main chain. The functional group includes a biphenyl group or a terphenyl group.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a liquid crystal display including: a lower electrode including a unit pixel electrode; an upper electrode including an upper unit electrode facing the unit pixel electrode; and a liquid crystal layer between the lower electrode and the upper electrode and including a plurality of liquid crystal molecules aligned approximately perpendicular to the surfaces of the lower electrode and the upper electrode in the absence of an electric field, wherein the unit pixel electrode includes a stem forming a boundary between a plurality of sub-regions and a plurality of minute branches extending in different directions in two different sub-regions, the upper unit electrode includes an opening facing the stem and extending parallel to the stem, any alignment aid to pretilt the liquid crystal molecules is absent, and a length of the minute branches is equal to or less than about 53 μm.

Abstract: A liquid crystal display having a curved surface includes: a display panel including a first display panel, a second display panel, and a liquid crystal layer interposed therebetween and including liquid crystal molecules. The first display panel includes a first substrate on which a plurality of gate lines and data lines are formed, a first electrode, and a pixel electrode. The second display panel includes a second substrate facing the first substrate and a second electrode. The liquid crystal display further includes a common voltage supplier applying two voltages having a predetermined voltage difference to the first and second electrodes within a period before a frame displaying an image on the display panel; a gate driver applying a gate signal to each of the gate lines after the period; and a data driver applying a data voltage to the pixel electrode corresponding to the gate signal.

Abstract: A display device may include a common electrode, a first pixel electrode, a second pixel electrode, an insulation layer, and a liquid crystal layer. The first pixel electrode overlaps the common electrode. The second pixel electrode is electrically connected to the first pixel electrode and is positioned between the first pixel electrode and the common electrode. A first portion of the second pixel electrode does not overlap the first pixel electrode in a direction perpendicular to the common electrode. A second portion of the second pixel electrode overlaps a first portion of the first pixel electrode. A second portion of the first pixel electrode does not overlap the second pixel electrode in the direction perpendicular to the common electrode. The insulating layer is positioned between the first pixel electrode and the second pixel electrode. The liquid crystal layer is positioned between the common electrode and the second pixel electrode.
