Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques that may be used wireless network communication devices to support devices operating with extended discontinuous reception (eDRX). An exemplary method, performed by a BS, generally includes determining at least one paging hyper-frame for paging a user equipment (UE) based on an identification (ID) of the UE, the paging hyper-frame determined from a set of periodically occurring hyper-frames that each span a number of radio frames, receiving a request to page the UE, and transmitting a paging signal to the UE in at least one subframe within a radio frame of the paging hyper-frame. Another exemplary method, performed by a UE, generally includes determining at least one paging hyper-frame for monitoring for a paging signal from a base station (BS) based on an identification (ID) of the UE, the paging hyper-frame determined from a set of periodically occurring hyper-frames that each span a number of radio frames, and monitoring for the paging signal in at least one subframe within a radio frame of the paging hyper-frame.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communications, and more specifically to enhanced paging procedures for devices with limited communications resources, such as machine type communication (MTC) devices and enhanced or evolved MTC (eMTC) devices. An example method generally includes determining a set of subframes corresponding to a paging occasion for the UE to receive a paging message from a base station (BS), determining, within the set of subframes, at least one narrowband region for receiving the paging message, and monitoring for the paging message in the at least one narrowband region within the set of subframes.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A wireless device transmits an indication of whether the device should be paged over a 3GPP access when a core network has data ready to transmit for PDU sessions over a non-3GPP access. A session management function (SMF) of the core network receives a data notification indicating that the core network has data ready to transmit to the wireless device for a PDU session over the non-3GPP access. The SMF determines whether to transmit a paging request to an access and mobility management function (AMF) of the core network based on a paging state of the SMG, a paging state of the wireless device, or a connection management idleness state of the wireless device. The AMF determines whether to transmit a paging message to the wireless device.

Abstract: Techniques are described for configuring wireless service for a user equipment (UE) in a wireless communications network in which the UE may be served over one or more of multiple available cells. Wireless service for the UE may be configured based on parameters associated with each of the multiple cells, such as, for example, a primary/secondary cell designation of a cell, whether the cell operates using a licensed or an unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band, a radio access technology associated with a cell, and/or an operating frequency band of a cell. Based on the parameters for each cell, one or more cell configurations for serving the UE may be provided. The cell configurations may identify, for example, a set of rules that control how much and/or what type of traffic is sent on different cells.

Abstract: Neutral host networks may offer one or more different services via one or more different service providers, but user equipment (UE) may not necessarily know which services/service providers are offered by the neutral host networks. Accordingly, nodes of the neutral host networks (e.g., an access point, such as an evolved Node B (eNB)) may transmit service discovery information (SDI) to advertise the one or more services or service providers offered by the node and/or the neutral host network. Thus, a UE can receive the SDI via broadcast by the node, dedicated message from the node, etc., and can accordingly present at least a portion of the SDI or determine whether to connect to the node or another node of the neutral host network based at least in part on the SDI.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for wireless communications. A wireless communication system may use access preferences to indicate a preferred access for communicating signaling for a control plane service. In some aspects, an AMF and a UE may establish access preferences for one or more control plane services and communicate signaling for the control plane service based on the established access preferences. In some cases, the UE may transmit modified access preferences for a control plane service to the AMF, and the UE and AMF may communicate signaling for the control plane service based on the modified access preferences. In some aspects, an AMF may also restrict the accesses used by a control plane service. A UE may also request that certain accesses are restricted for use by a control plane service.

Abstract: Network entities in a wireless network cooperate to account and charge for data communicated over the wireless network. Accounting and charging enable the network entities to properly allocate charges to a second user equipment that communicates through a first user equipment, which acts as a relay in the wireless network. A network entity receives a request from the first user equipment related to a packet data network connection relating to the second user equipment. The network entity establishes or modifies a connection between a gateway and the first user equipment in response to the request. Charges for the data may be allocated to the second user equipment for data communicated with the identifier of the second user equipment.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for facilitating Machine Type Communication (MTC) in a wireless communications system. Link budget-limited MTC devices may be supported. An MTC physical broadcast channel may be utilized for MTC and may be transmitted over one or more subframes different from a regular physical broadcast channel. The payload for the MTC physical broadcast channel may be reduced. The MTC physical broadcast channel may be utilized to indicate the presence of paging and/or to indicate a change in system information. One or more MTC-specific system information blocks may combine and/or simplify multiple system information blocks. The location of the MTC system information blocks may be predetermined or information about their location may be transmitted over the MTC physical broadcast channel. An enhanced paging channel may be used to indicate system information updates.

Abstract: Techniques for aggregating heterogeneous carriers in a wireless communication system are disclosed. A mobile device may receive a configuration for aggregating a plurality of component carriers including one or more cellular carriers and a wireless local area network (WLAN) carrier. The one or more cellular carriers may include LTE carriers, and aggregation may be performed at a sub-IP protocol layer of operation. In one aspect, protocol entities may be modified to perform quality of service determinations, carrier selection, traffic mapping, or the like, in view of the different capabilities and characteristics of the heterogeneous carriers in the carrier aggregation configuration.
